Facility Attendant (Student) (13) (NU 24.25)
Assist full-time staff with the following responsibilities:
- Cleaning and maintaining the facility, including sweeping, washing and stripping floors, vacuuming, washing windows and doors, cleaning washrooms and change rooms, and emptying garbage.
- Liaising with the public to provide information about the facility and to arrange room rentals.
- Monitoring user functions to ensure building security and adherence to rental contracts.
- Setting up meeting rooms for various events, cleaning rooms, and dismantling furniture after events.
- Maintaining the facility grounds.
- Reporting and assisting with recording incidents such as injuries or vandalism.
- Operating, caring for, and maintaining tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Performing ice maintenance tasks, including moving nets during flooding and opening/closing doors.
- Performing laboring duties such as climbing, lifting, balancing, kneeling, stooping, walking, and handling materials to support facility and infrastructure maintenance.
- Maintaining daily written records of work activities.
- Patrolling the skating area to ensure safety and enforce rules, including monitoring access and assisting patrons.
- Assisting with repairs and maintenance, reporting defects to the supervisor.
- Providing exceptional customer service.
Requirements:
- Minimum 15 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in janitorial or building maintenance is an asset.
- Proficient ice skater is an asset.
- Standard First Aid with CPR Level C is preferred.
- Must be enrolled full-time in a secondary or post-secondary institution and returning to school full-time.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar software.
- Ability to work in a team, follow instructions, and perform duties with minimal supervision.
- Courteous and effective communication with the public.
- Reliable, motivated, and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to lift 30 to 50 lbs.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- CSA-approved safety boots (6-8 inches, suede or leather).
- Ice skates.
Position Details:
- Salary: $18.06/hour
- Up to 40 hours/week, from September 1, 2025, to approximately April 30, 2026.
- Location: Various arenas and recreation centers in Norfolk County.
- Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
