Job summary

Roth IAMS is seeking an Architectural/Structural Facility Assessor to perform on-site evaluations of building systems across North America. The role emphasizes data collection, drawing review, and concise reporting to support capital planning and asset management.

You will manage timelines, costs, and client communication while producing high-quality Facility Condition Assessments and budgets, with opportunities to advance into energy audits and specialized assessments.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of relevant College or University-Level Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural, Civil/Structural or Building Science related Program(s).
  • Related Facility Assessment or industry experience.
  • Knowledge of construction materials and products, building components and deterioration mechanisms.
  • Excellent technical writing skills and concise reporting based on project evidence.
  • Excellent organizational and time management to deliver on time and budget.

Responsibilities

  • Independently carry out on-site assessments of roof, envelope, structural and architectural building systems, including liaising with clients.
  • Use proprietary software for data collection and reporting (e.g., SLAM CAP, VFA, AssetPlanner).
  • Review drawings for quantity take-offs and prepare multi-discipline Facility Condition Assessments.
  • Maintain high-quality reports and manage time and project costs to ensure profitability.
  • Inventory building systems and apply equipment tags with bar codes or QR codes.

Architectural / Structural Facility Assessor

Roth IAMS is a growing, industry-leading company specializing in integrated asset management and capital planning services across North America.

Our Facility Assessors independently conducts on-site assessments of building systems. In this role, you'll collect data and review drawings to prepare detailed reports that can include recommendations, and budgets. The position requires ensuring high-quality written reports, managing project timelines and costs, and providing responsive client support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Independently carry out Roof, Envelope, Structural and Architectural building systems and/or Mechanical & Electrical on-site visual assessment and investigation, and/or Site Surface and underground infrastructure systems on-site visual assessment, investigation; including liaison with clients as needed;
  • In most cases, utilize proprietary software for data collection and reporting – such software can include SLAM CAP, VFA, facility, and AssetPlanner;
  • Independently review drawings for quantity take-offs and prepare multi-discipline Facility Condition Assessments (FCAs);
  • Maintain a high level of report quality;
  • Be cognizant of and/or manage time and project costs to ensure project profitability;
  • Complete inventory of building systems, including collecting relevant information, such as Make, Model, Serial Number, etc, and applying an equipment tag containing a bar code or QR code.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of relevant College or University-Level Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural, Civil/Structural or Building Science related Program(s);
  • Related Facility Assessment or industry experience;
  • Knowledge of construction materials and products, building components, material deterioration mechanisms and repair and restoration methods;
  • Excellent technical writing skills are required. Reporting is to be concise, follow company report formats and be based on project-specific evidence;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required;
  • Effective, responsive communication (verbally and written);
  • Must be willing to work at heights, including climbing ladders and accessing rooftops;
  • A valid G driver’s license and access to insured vehicle for travel to project sites are required (work related mileage is reimbursed);
  • Ability to travel for up to a week at a time is required (work related expenses are reimbursed).
  • Knowledge of Facility Condition Assessment (FCA) Methodology and ASTM Uniformat II Classification System (a method for organizing building system data) is an asset;
  • Knowledge of municipal, state and/or national building and fire codes is an asset;
  • Proficiency in Capital Planning software such as SLAM CAP, VFA. Facility or Asset Planner, etc. is an asset;
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE 90.1, EnergyStar, Federal Energy Incentive programs, ADA are considered assets;

Compensation:

The expected salary range for this position is $55,000 – $90,000 per year.
