Nature of the Position

Reporting to the Manager of Public Works, the Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the upkeep, repair and improvement on all buildings and facilities owned by the District. This includes developing and implementing preventative maintenance schedules, troubleshooting and responding to work order requests, and performing a wide range of minor repairs involving light carpentry, and HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems. The technician plays a key role in maintaining a safe, functional, and comfortable environment for facility users, while proactively protecting the District’s assets.

In addition to maintenance responsibilities, the Facility Maintenance Technician supports capital and operational projects by collaborating on facility upgrades and contributes to budget processes by planning, monitoring, and maintaining detailed records of work and expenditures. Additionally, the role includes conducting regular safety inspections, ensuring compliance with District policies, occupational health and safety regulations and other applicable legislation.

This role acts as the contact in emergency situations as they relate to District facility operations, so flexibility is required to respond to after-hours emergency call outs.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Completion of Grade 12 (or equivalent)
  • Holds a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license with clean abstract
  • Must obtain and maintain RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in facilities maintenance and management
  • Willingness and ability to respond to after-hours emergency call outs within 30 minutes and flexibility to adjust shift times as operationally required
  • Proficient in basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical HVAC and mechanical systems
  • Experience in the safe operation of ladders, hand and power tools, mobile equipment and other common construction equipment
  • Intermediate knowledge of general facility maintenance, repair techniques, products, and procedures
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Highly motivated and capable of working independently
  • Demonstrates initiative, responsibility, reliability and resourcefulness
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, demonstrating professionalism and customer service
  • Ability to lift, hold and carry weights up to 50 lbs. and sufficient strength and agility to perform manual labour

Preferred

  • Knowledge of WebCTRL by AutomatedLogic DDC programming software
  • Prior experience in municipal government operations
  • Experience in evaluating contract documents
  • Experience in the planning and coordination of projects

Working Conditions

This is a regular, full-time unionized role within the BCGEU. Hours of work are 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Flexibility to work overtime for evening or weekend call outs is required. The wage for this role is Grid 10, $37.41 – $41.58 per hour, plus an attractive benefits and pension package.The District supports employment equity in accordance with the Human Rights Code of BC.
