Facilities Engineer - Oil & Gas (Fort McMurray, AB)
Our client, a major Oil and Gas company, is seeking a Facilities Engineer for a 1-year contract in Fort McMurray, AB. Fly-in/fly-out options available from Calgary/Edmonton.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
- Communicate regularly with the Business Unit Team to identify engineering support needs.
- Understand project statuses; collaborate with the Small Projects Coordinator to prioritize Engineering Work Orders (WOs).
- Ensure project completion aligns with the Project Execution Manual.
- Assist in project scoping with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering for clear scope justifications.
- Obtain approvals for Authorization for Expenditures (AFE).
- Coordinate with engineers, designers, and third-party firms to create error-free Construction Work Packages (CWPs).
- Review engineering deliverables with Maintenance and Construction to ensure practicality and constructibility.
- Complete risk assessments and change management for each project.
- Manage schedules and budgets for sustaining capital projects.
- Support procurement and construction phases of sustaining capital projects.
- Develop budgets, forecasts, and long-term plans for projects.
- Ensure proper project closure upon completion.
Health, Safety & Environment:
- Comply with all company health and safety standards.
- Adhere to Alberta's Occupational Health and Safety Act and environmental regulations.
- Follow safe work procedures and ensure PPE usage.
- Report injuries, illnesses, unsafe acts, and conditions immediately.
Qualifications:
Education & Certifications:
- Preferred Engineering Degree, ideally in Mechanical, Civil, Materials, or Metallurgical Engineering.
- Technologist Degree with piping design experience will be considered.
- Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Alberta (APEGA).
- Project Management Certification (PMI or equivalent) is an asset.
Experience:
- At least 4 years of relevant experience; 5-10 years in operational oil and gas facilities with PE designation preferred.
- Experience working directly with Operations and Maintenance personnel.
- Experience managing small to mid-sized capital projects is an asset.
- Familiarity with WCB and Alberta OH&S regulations.
