Job description

Our client, a major oil and gas producer, is looking for a Facilities Engineer based in their field office in Fort McMurray, AB. Reporting to the Lead, Facilities Engineer, this is a contract position on a 4/3 schedule. Flights are provided from Edmonton or Calgary, or shuttle services are available to and from Ft. McMurray if local to the region.

Responsibilities:
  1. Communicate regularly with your Business Unit Team to determine engineering support requirements.
  2. Understand the status of all projects in your value stream; collaborate with the Small Projects Coordinator to prioritize all Engineering Work Orders.
  3. Work with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering during project scoping to ensure scope justifications for Engineering Work Orders are clear.
  4. Complete and obtain approval for Authorization for Expenditures (AFE).
  5. Coordinate with engineers, designers, and third-party engineering firms to create error-free Construction Work Packages (CWP).
  6. Review engineering deliverables with Maintenance and Construction Coordinators to ensure practicality and constructibility.
  7. Ensure risk assessments and change management processes are completed for each project.
  8. Manage schedule and budget for sustaining capital projects in your area.
  9. Provide engineering support during procurement and construction phases of sustaining capital projects.
  10. Develop annual budgets, cost forecasts, and long-range plans for projects.
  11. Ensure proper project close-out upon completion.
Qualifications:
  1. Engineering Degree preferred, ideally in Mechanical, Civil, Materials, or Metallurgical Engineering.
  2. Technologist Degree with piping design experience will be considered.
  3. Registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer in Alberta with APEGA.
  4. Project Management Certification (e.g., PMI) is an asset.
Experience:
  1. Minimum of 4 years of experience; 5-10 years in an operational oil and gas facility with PE designation is preferred.
  2. Experience working directly with Operations and Maintenance personnel in an operational facility is essential.
  3. Experience managing small to mid-sized capital projects using established project management processes is an asset.
  4. Familiarity with WCB and Alberta OHS Rules and Regulations.

  1. Excellent communication, documentation, leadership skills, and a strong work ethic.
  2. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  3. Ability to facilitate issue resolution within a large multidisciplinary team.
  4. Self-motivated, highly organized, and able to deliver on time.
  5. Experience in facilities process safety reviews through techniques like MOC, PHA, HAZOP, and "What if" analyses.
