As an external communications specialist, you will play a critical role for Best Buy Canada’s Marketing and Communications departments. You’ll lead the major annual campaigns for media and influencer relations, creating and executing all PR efforts related to our biggest corporate initiatives, brand activations, and community relations.

In this role, the successful candidate is needed to be in the greater Vancouver, BC area, where we practice a remote-first working model, leveraging in-person interactions for strategic, collaborative, and social purposes.

What you’ll do:

1. Develop and lead multi-faceted and market-leading 360 campaigns for our major promotional periods including media relations and partner activation.
2. Be comfortable as a spokesperson in all media channels.
3. Work with senior leaders to identify thought leadership opportunities, drive their public messaging, and coordinate subsequent interviews.
4. Already have fantastic media and influencer relationships, with a passion for growing a network, to include PR teams at some of the world’s coolest brands.
5. Provide daily media relations support through research, story generation, pitching, writing, and editing media materials.
6. Support issues management and crisis communications as necessary while supporting corporate and enterprise initiatives including award submissions, growth narratives, employer brand, etc.
7. Work with PR and brand agencies for media-specific activations and internal stakeholders on PR requests, events, and activations.
8. Continuously grow and improve media relations and influencer programs.

What we’re looking for:

1. 5+ years of proven experience where effective communication has been key (your background could be sales, marketing, PR, digital, or customer service, but you were the best at what you did, and you can prove it!).
2. A strong interest and knowledge in news/current affairs and trends.
3. Social media savvy.
4. Already connected to the key media people across Canada.
5. A keen consumer with an understanding of how people shop and what retailers (traditional and e-commerce) are doing to entice new customers.

Annualized base pay range:

$70,000.00 - $80,000.00
Starting pay offered will consider skills and experience. Your pay can grow as you build your career with us.
