Job description

THE COMPANY
The Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba (WCB) is an injury and disability insurance system for Manitoba workers and employers. The WCB is governed by a Board of Directors representative of employers, workers and public interest.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Board of Directors is seeking qualified candidates for a position on its Audit Committee. The Audit Committee's role is to assist the Board of Directors in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities in financial reporting, internal controls, corporate integrity, and risk management.

The Audit Committee is responsible for reviewing and approving the mandate of the WCB's internal auditor, and reviewing and advising the WCB on the annual report and on any audit or investigation under The Workers Compensation Act. As a committee member, you will provide financial and audit expertise to the Audit Committee.

The ideal applicant will possess all of the following attributes:

  • A recognized professional accounting designation;
  • Financial and accounting experience in a senior management capacity;
  • Experience preparing, auditing, analyzing, or evaluating financial statements and an understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards and Canadian generally accepted auditing standards and their application.

The initial appointment to this position would be for a three-year term with the opportunity for renewal. The commitment of the position involves attending four to five committee meetings per year, in addition to the time necessary to prepare for the meetings.
