Job description

Position: Addiction Worker

Position Status: 1 Permanent Full-Time

This position will provide quality, client focused, recovery-based assessment and treatment to adults and youth with addictions. The worker will carry a small caseload, provide brief crisis intervention to individuals and organize/provide follow-up, when appropriate. This position will act as a resource for the multi-disciplinary team regarding addictions issues. The incumbent will conduct screening and comprehensive assessments and gather relevant collateral information to determine service needs. Based on the outcome of the screening and assessments, individuals will be linked up with the most appropriate services; and the Addictions Worker will support clients while they transition into these services.

Reporting to the Manager of Integrated Client Services, the incumbent will be responsible for the following functions:

  • Completing screening and ANSA assessments.
  • Implementing client centered plan of care that focus on strengths, wellness and empowerment to support recovery and goal achievement, along the continuum of care from harm reduction to abstinence.
  • Follow up with clients to ensure seamless linkages are in place to optimize treatment outcomes.
  • Liaising, when appropriate, with other caregivers/support providers who are involved with the client to ensure continuity of care using a least intrusive approach.
  • Work collaboratively with community partners for youth addiction services as required.
  • Provide coverage support to Mental Health First Response and Mobile Care when required.
  • Acting as a resource for CMHA staff regarding addiction service planning resources and information.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma in Addiction Studies program from an accredited college.
  • Current registration with the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation is required.
  • A minimum of one year’s experience working in Addictions and
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle are required.

Skills required:

  • demonstrated understanding and practice of the principles of Universal precautions, harm reduction and crisis intervention.
  • crisis and suicide Intervention training is an asset.
  • knowledge of the Mental Health Act, as well as relevant legislation specific to an individual with a serious mental illness.
  • demonstrated ability to develop empathetic, professional relationships with chemically dependent/addicted individual.
  • extensive knowledge of Addictions, including the range or addictions that a client could present
  • extensive knowledge of withdrawal management treatment programs in the community.
  • understanding of the intersection of mental health and addictions
  • client assessment skills for monitoring withdraw management symptoms.
  • extremely well developed written and verbal communications skills.
  • Working knowledge of computers with skill in the use of Email and Microsoft office; and
  • Preference will be given to a qualified Bilingual (French and English) candidate.

Hours of Work: 35 hours/week. Flexible hours are required to meet the position requirements.

Salary: Commensurate with experience within the range: $56,084 - $70,964, inclusive of HOOPP.
