Expression of Interest for the position of Spare Head Bus Driver

Kings County Area

Hours of work: As needed basis

Rate of Pay: As per CUPE Collective Agreement ($29.44)

Terms and conditions of employment, including wages, are in accordance with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Collective Agreement Local 3876.

The Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education invites expressions of interest for a Head Bus Driver position required on an as-needed basis to support operations in the Kings County Area.

Reporting to the Transportation Supervisor, responsibilities will include:

  1. Operate a school bus in accordance with all safety standards as prescribed by the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia and in accordance with School Board Policies and Procedures.
  2. Maintain discipline on school buses and follow Board policies and procedures of incidents of buses.
  3. Organize and maintain extra-curricular runs and assign drivers according to Board policies and procedures.
  4. Maintain school bus routes and students assigned to routes.
  5. Assign spare drivers to replace regular drivers according to contract, including training of spare bus driver applicants.
  6. Inspect school buses for cleanliness and ensure all appropriate paperwork is in order.
  7. Answer calls from the public and provide information related to bus scheduling and transportation operations, including school bus stops.
  8. Perform other duties as outlined in the job description.

The successful candidate should have the following qualifications and abilities:

  • Must be at least 19 years old, possess a current Nova Scotia Operator’s License Class 2B with air brake endorsement.
  • Maintain a clean driving record and up-to-date medical and vision tests.

  • Adhere to legislation, Board policies, and administrative procedures.

This position is available to qualified permanent employees within the CUPE Bargaining Unit Local 3876 who are members of the Bus Driver classification.
