Job summary

Waterloo Catholic District School Board is seeking a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) for a temporary 0.5 FTE position at St. Gabriel Catholic Elementary School.

The assignment runs from November 11, 2026 to December 18, 2026, in support of Early Learning Kindergarten and Extended Day programming. The RECE will collaborate with educators to plan and implement the program, delivering faith-based activities to support cognitive, physical, social, spiritual and emotional development,

Qualifications

• Member in Good Standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
• Preference given to applicants meeting Catholicity requirements.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement the Early Learning Kindergarten curriculum.
• Lead from planning to execution of age-appropriate activities.
• Observe, monitor and assess pupil development in Kindergarten and Extended Day.
• Support students with IEPs in collaboration with educators and special education staff.
• Implement developmentally appropriate Extended Day activities.
• Maintain a healthy, supportive learning environment for students.
• Foster pro-social skills like sharing and problem solving.
• Guide in washroom routines, dressing, and lunchtime activities.
• Keep records (health, attendance) with confidentiality.

Job description

The following temporary RECE position is available:

0.5 FTE - St. Gabriel CES (C)

November 11, 2026 to December 18, 2026

General Description of Duties:

The responsibilities of the position include collaborating withother educatorsto plan and implement the Early Learning Kindergarten program within a classroom setting and/or taking the lead in implementing age appropriate learning for groups of students as part of the Extended Day Program.

The RECE will deliver faith-based Early Learning Programs in an environment that enhances childrens cognitive, physical, social, spiritual and emotional development.

Responsibilities for Both Kindergarten and Extended Day Programs:

1. Partner withclassroom educatorsand other designated staff to plan and implement the EarlyLearning Kindergartenand Extended Day Program(s) through developmentally appropriate curriculum-based activities
2. Collaborate withclassroom educatorsand other designated staff to support individual students identified needs, strengths, interests and stages of development
3. Observe, monitor and assess the development of pupils in Kindergarten and/or Extended Day Program
4. Collaborate withclassroom educatorsand special education teacher to carry out specialized activities to support learning for students requiring an Individual Education Plan (IEP)
5. Collaborate with Extended Day team to implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on the Extended Day Program expectations
6. Maintain a healthy, physical, emotional and social learning context for students
7. Provide a variety of experiences to strengthen pro-social skills such as sharing, problem solving and cooperation
8. Provide guidance in washroom routines, dressing and lunchtime activities
9. Maintain appropriate records for students (e.g. health, attendance, etc.) respecting confidentiality and adhering to all privacy legislation
10. Collaborate and maintain set-up of classroom (e.g. display, organization of materials etc.)
11. Where applicable, attend staff meetings, appropriate school-level meetings and professional development activities
12. Perform related administrative functions as required such as attendance and billing in the extended day program
13. Complete any duties as assigned by Administrator or ECE Supervisor

Application Requirements to be considered for permanent assignments:

1. Member in Good Standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
2. You are not required to hold the Catholicity requirements to apply for this position. However, preference will be provided to those applicants that meet the Catholicity requirements.
3. External applicants must include a cover letter and resume. Internal applicants, including those on the RECE supply list are not required to submit a cover letter and resume.

Schedule and Hours of Work:

hours of work to be confirmed by the Administrator in coordination with the ECE Supervisor

Full-time positions: 7 hours/day plus ½ to 1 hour per day unpaid lunch

Part time positions: 3.5 hours/day

Schedules will vary from school to school and will range from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.
