Export/ Import Permit Manager

Reporting to the Director of Procurement, the Export-Import Permit Manager is responsible for establishing, overseeing, implementing, and managing CANDU’s export-import control and licensing programs with Global Affairs Canada, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), and other relevant intergovernmental agencies. This involves managing the company’s export permits and licenses for controlled nuclear equipment, parts, and technical data/technology.
Your role within the team:
- Serve as a client-driven subject matter expert in export-import controls and licensing, preferably within a global nuclear company or a similarly regulated sector such as energy or defense.
- Establish, oversee, and implement the company's export-import control and licensing programs with relevant agencies, ensuring compliance for the transfer of controlled nuclear goods and technology.
- Ensure all controlled goods and technology are transferred under valid permits and licenses issued by Global Affairs Canada and CNSC.
- Track all permits and licenses, monitor expiration dates, and create alert systems for upcoming renewals to ensure continuous compliance.
- Develop an internal process and service center for collecting information, assessing applications, submission via the NEXCOL system, tracking, enforcement, and reporting.
- Coordinate with internal teams, third-party vendors, project management, and technical stakeholders to ensure accurate and compliant submissions to GAC and CNSC.
- Establish educational campaigns to promote understanding of export-import controls and answer stakeholder questions, including creating FAQ resources.
- Stay updated on policy amendments related to international trade compliance, especially regulations under GAC’s Export Control List and CNSC Schedule.
- Handle all internal and external reporting related to export permit control and import/export licensing activities, in accordance with regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate:
- Post-secondary education.
- Experience in Aerospace, Defense, or Nuclear sectors preferred.
- Knowledge of Canadian export control and CNSC licensing processes for nuclear or similarly controlled goods.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret regulations and legislation.
- Integrity, effective stakeholder communication, and independence.
- Client-driven mindset and ability to engage at all organizational levels.
- Ability to work seamlessly in hierarchical and matrix organizations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with the EXCOL platform.
Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): Manage a team of specialists.
