Job Description
- Identifies quality exploration projects and targets that are aligned with SSR’s core strategies having positive material impacts on the company.
- Guides and supports the local exploration teams, helping to generate and test targets while obeying and/or exceeding current best practices in health, safety and environmental management.
- Helps build exploration teams and programs, defines and develops new gold resources across exploration tenements, and advances the understanding of mine, near-mine and regional geology as a key part of the process essential to new gold discovery and effective development of gold resources.
- Ensures that all exploration work is undertaken and completed in compliance with international reporting codes such as JORC and NI 43-101.
- Drives constant improvement in the quality of SSR’s geological evaluations and the competency of exploration geologists.
The Day To Day
- Oversees all jurisdictional exploration activities including geological, geophysical and geochemical data acquisition, drilling, data processing, implementation of quality assurance/quality control programs, data storage, and resource management.
- Helps to identify and rank new and existing exploration projects and targets, and recommends potential acquisitions and agreements.
- Proficient in interpreting data and making sound objective assessments regarding exploration potential.
- Oversees the implementation of company safety, environment, and community standards, objectives, policies and best practices.
- Develops an effective 1-2 year strategic plan, annual business plan and budget
- Defines and presents annual exploration budgets to management
- Competently manages budgets of $3-10M
- Ability to monitor performance against Key Performance Indicators, objectives and budget.
- Helps the local teams develop exploration models and assists in the planning of exploration programs.
- Works with team members on land tenure, permit management and help negotiate, and maintain joint venture agreements that satisfy SSR investment criteria.
- Advises on exploration strategies and sits on the exploration leadership team.
- Skilled in financial management and understanding of business value drivers.
- Proficient in leading risk assessments to identify key HSEC and business risks and establishing controls to mitigate those risks.
Is this you?
- Strong leadership, management, communication, and project management skills.
- Requires a university degree (BSc Hons or MSc) in Geosciences or Geological Engineering, with 15+ years exploration experience including international experience
- 5+ years' supervisory experience preferred
- Resource evaluation or mine experience
- Experience in negotiating and managing joint ventures
- Substantial experience in contractor management
- Qualified as a Competent Person (CP) under JORC or NI 43-101 or Equivalent
- Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices, policies and procedures.
- Advanced knowledge of geological principles and techniques, and ore-forming systems.
- Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office software especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of Leapfrog and ArcGIS software are an asset.
- Willing to travel for extended periods of time
