Primary Purpose

The claims adjuster is responsible for the investigation, evaluation, and quantification of insurance claims. The adjuster will determine and provide recommendations regarding coverage, liability, and quantum, within the policy terms.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Manage and adjust assigned claims, including conducting investigations, determining coverage and validity, interviewing insureds, claimants, and witnesses, inspecting claims sites, assigning external vendors, recommending reserves, preparing reports, and negotiating settlements. Participate in mediations and arbitrations as required. Work with defense counsel as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records according to company standards using company systems and external client systems.
  • Manage billing and assist with collection of accounts receivables for claims.
  • Support local marketing efforts, attend professional and social events, and develop new business opportunities.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients and participate in reviews and audits.
  • Utilize mathematical and reasoning skills to analyze data and arrive at conclusions.
  • Adapt to environmental and weather conditions as needed.
  • Stay updated with industry, legislative changes, and licensing requirements through continuous education.
  • Ensure reserves, coding, and reporting are current on assigned claims.

Qualifications
Education & Licensing
  • Post-secondary education
  • Working toward CIP designation
  • Licensed or able to obtain a provisional license
  • Valid driver’s license
Experience
  • Proven adjusting and negotiating skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication skills, and proficiency with computers
Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of insurance, claims, or business management
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Ability to navigate client systems
