Job Summary

The Compensation Manager plays a pivotal role in designing, developing, and managing compensation programs, supporting internal partners across various levels. This role aids the Compensation group and HR in guiding strategic and compensation decisions, and is integral to the compensation decision process.

Main Responsibilities
Field Support
  • Partner with HR Business Partners and Management to stay updated on organizational changes and support compensation strategies to attract, retain, and support talent within CN and subsidiaries.
  • Assist various functions and subsidiaries in all compensation-related matters for Canada and the US.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations for external hires, appointments, international and cross-border cases (in collaboration with relocation team), systemic issues, and complex cases.
  • Conduct compensation analyses to support effective decision-making, interpret results and trends, and optimize HR reward processes.
Job Evaluation and Ongoing Projects
  • Participate in the job evaluation process.
  • Support partners in job preparation, review, and evaluation to ensure clarity and appropriate actions.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects such as HR Transformation initiatives and analyses.
Compensation Benchmarks, Surveys, and Salary Reviews
  • Participate in general and market-specific compensation surveys to align with market trends.
  • Perform annual benchmarking and compression reviews to support the compensation budget.
  • Support the preparation of the annual compensation budget.
  • Collaborate with HR during the compensation cycle to ensure transparent salary reviews aligned with business needs.
Working Conditions

The role involves standard office work with a regular Monday to Friday schedule. The incumbent must meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and manage stress effectively.

Requirements
Experience
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in compensation management.
Education / Certification / Designation
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, Mathematics, or equivalent.
