Location: Ontario

The Utility Locator plays an integral role in marking underground utilities and meeting our high-quality standards. He/she will conduct locating services for residential and commercial customers within a specified geographical area.

The Utility Locator plays an integral role in marking underground utilities and meeting our high-quality standards. He/she will conduct locating services for residential and commercial customers within a specified geographical area.

We are currently seeking Experienced Utility Locators with at least 1-year of field experience for the Ottawa area.

Responsibilities include:

1. Conduct utility locates as required
2. Research or analyze data regarding excavation locations, construction prints, and plans to determine actual lines of requested utilities
3. Operate various electronic devices including receivers and transmitters designed to assist in locating underground utilities such as gas, phone, and fiber optic cables
4. Mark utility lines using spray paint or coloured flags
5. Prepare reports and documentation verifying marked utilities
6. Complete locates to Promark-Telecon standards and schedules as required

This role is suitable if you have the following skills and qualities:

• At least 1-year prior experience as a Utility Locator (Damage Prevention Technician)
• Valid G class driver’s license with a good driver’s abstract
• Minimum high school education
• Previous construction experience (asset)
• Ability to distinguish colours for marked utilities
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail
• Ability to carry equipment up to 15 lbs
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Customer service skills for interacting with clients, colleagues, and the public
• Intermediate computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel)
• Confined Space Entry training (asset)
• Ability to complete pre-employment background checks

Additional Information:

• This is a unionized position. Travel is required throughout the geographic region (company vehicle and gas card provided).

Physical Demands: Must be able to perform physical tasks, including moving equipment and materials, carrying transmitters and receivers, and standing or walking for extended periods.
