Job summary

WSP Calgary is seeking an Environmental Consultant to lead Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and coordinate field programs across Western Canada. You will collect soil and groundwater data, write technical reports, and work with clients, regulators, and contractors while upholding health, safety and environmental standards.

A degree in Environmental Science or related field and 3–5 years of experience are required, with travel across Western Canada.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or university degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geology, Biology, or a related discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years of environmental consulting experience focused on Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and groundwater monitoring.
  • Working knowledge of Alberta environmental regulations, liability management frameworks, and site closure requirements.
  • Experience planning and coordinating field programs while maintaining strong health, safety, and environmental performance.
  • Demonstrated technical report writing and data interpretation abilities.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients, regulators, landowners, contractors, and project teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and environmental reporting tools.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and perform field work for extended durations across Western Canada.
  • Professional designation such as P.Ag., R.TAg., or P.Biol. is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute Phase I Environmental Site Assessments for upstream oil & gas, commercial, industrial, and mining sector clients.
  • Plan and coordinate field programs including environmental site assessments, groundwater monitoring, remediation, and reclamation activities throughout Western Canada.
  • Collect and document environmental field data, including soil and groundwater samples, in accordance with regulatory requirements and WSP standards.
  • Drive safe field operations by supervising contractors, ground disturbance activities, and junior team members.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients, regulators, landowners, laboratories, and service providers to support project success.
  • Contribute to project planning through budget development, workplan preparation, cost tracking, and progress reporting.
  • Prepare and review high-quality technical reports that help clients make informed environmental decisions.
  • Support continuous improvement through the development of internal tools, resources, and environmental management practices.

Compensation:

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $88,800 - $107,000
MB & ON: $73,700 - $101,500
NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $73,000 - $x89,900
