Gas Distribution Mechanic (A-Tech)

  • Prevailing wage varies between $70-$90 per hour (No Dues)
  • This position supports Dutchess, Rockland, and Orange Counties in New York State
  • Monday - Friday, 6:30 am – 2:30 pm with OT available

Job Description: The A-Tech is responsible for performing intensive physical construction labor duties such as hand digging and utilizing various tools around underground utilities for service and main work. This includes digging trenches, backfilling, and skilled technical work related to the installation, maintenance, and operation of natural gas facilities, under supervision. The role requires proficient safety skills, quality workmanship, and a trustworthy reputation to deliver value in every task.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in constructing and installing natural gas mains and service lines using various pipe joining methods.
  • Maintain expertise in the installation and repair of underground gas facilities.
  • Operate construction equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, tampers, air compressors, and fusion equipment.
  • Ensure cleanliness and proper maintenance of all company-owned and rented vehicles and equipment, including checking fluids and greasing fittings daily.
  • Understand hazards associated with working around natural gas and heavy equipment, following all safety precautions.
  • Navigate through gas construction standards and operational manuals related to each task.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and team members to complete tasks successfully.
  • Lift and carry materials, and use hand and power tools as required.
  • Perform hand digging with shovels and digging bars.
  • Work in all weather conditions.
  • Travel to various locations within Central Hudson, Orange, Rockland, and Pike territories as needed.
  • Avoid using cell phones while working.
  • Adhere to safety standards set by the company and regulatory bodies.
  • Utilize Stop Work/Time Out procedures when necessary.
  • Pass all NGA A-Tech qualifications necessary for each task.

  • Valid driver’s license for at least 1 year
  • Ability to operate motorized vehicles safely
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Physical ability to climb, balance, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive hand movements; lift objects up to 50 pounds; sit or stand for extended periods
  • Effective communication skills and clarity in speaking
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Act with integrity and respect for property
  • Capability to work in all weather conditions
