Job summary

WSP is seeking an Experienced Engineering Manager, Studies to lead multidisciplinary teams on mining and resource development projects across Canada and beyond. You will drive study phases, ensure technical excellence, and mentor engineers while shaping strategic decisions and client relationships.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Engineering, a P.Eng. designation, and 15+ years of progressive experience in mining or heavy industry, with strong governance and risk management capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Mining, Chemical or related).
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation registered in a Canadian jurisdiction.
  • 15+ years of progressive engineering experience in mining, heavy industrial, or resource sectors.
  • Demonstrated leadership managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and study execution.
  • Extensive EPC/EPCM lifecycle experience including study development, detailed engineering, construction support, and field activities.
  • Strong governance, project controls, risk management, quality systems, and execution methodologies.
  • Experience with NI 43-101 and/or SK1300 reports is a strong asset.
  • Proven ability to deliver innovative engineering solutions and mentor professionals.

  • Direct preparation, integration, and QA of engineering deliverables for technical excellence.
  • Provide strategic leadership on engineering, risk, and project delivery challenges.
  • Drive planning, resource allocation, scheduling, and execution for safe and profitable outcomes.
  • Foster strong client relationships and ensure study outcomes align with objectives.
  • Champion continuous improvement, digital innovation, and modern engineering practices.
  • Mentor and develop engineering staff and build a collaborative team culture.
  • Monitor budgets, schedules, and risks to identify opportunities for improvement.

As an Experienced Engineering Manager, Studies, you'll lead multidisciplinary teams through complex study phases, guide critical project decisions, and deliver innovative solutions that support sustainable growth for clients across Canada and beyond.

Our Resources subsector within WSP's Energy, Resources & Industry (ERI) group partners with industrial and mining clients to deliver world‑class studies, engineering, project management, procurement, construction support, and EPCM solutions. From early‑stage evaluations through execution, you'll play a key role in advancing some of the industry’s most challenging and impactful projects.

Your Impact
  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams through conceptual, scoping, pre‑feasibility, feasibility, and execution studies for complex mining and industrial projects.
  • Direct the preparation, integration, and quality assurance of engineering deliverables, ensuring technical excellence and consistency across all disciplines.
  • Provide strategic leadership and informed decision‑making on complex engineering, project delivery, risk, and operational challenges.
  • Drive engineering planning, resource allocation, scheduling, and execution strategies to achieve project objectives safely, efficiently, and profitably.
  • Foster strong client relationships by acting as a trusted advisor and ensuring study outcomes align with business objectives and project requirements.
  • Champion continuous improvement, digital innovation, and modern engineering execution practices that enhance project delivery and team performance.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop engineering professionals while building an inclusive, collaborative, and high‑performing team culture.
  • Monitor project performance, budgets, schedules, and technical quality, proactively managing risks and identifying opportunities to improve project outcomes.
The Skills That Set You Apart
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Mining, Chemical, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation registered in a Canadian jurisdiction.
  • 15+ years of progressive engineering experience within mining, heavy industrial, or resource sector projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and study execution for large, complex projects.
  • Extensive experience across the EPC/EPCM project lifecycle, including study development, detailed engineering, construction support, and field engineering activities.
  • Strong understanding of engineering governance, project controls, risk management, quality systems, and project execution methodologies.
  • Experience leading or supporting the development of NI 43-101 and/or SK1300 technical reports is considered a strong asset.
  • Proven ability to deliver innovative engineering solutions, build client relationships, and mentor engineering professionals at all levels.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $114,600 - $151,800

MB & ON: $104,500 - $143,900

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $103,500 - $137,400
