About the Role

This is a design role within the EA SPORTS FC team, owning the end-to-end player experience for features from concept through ship, with a particular focus on extending the established FC Design System to handheld contexts. The work involves defining input models and navigation paths for touch and platform-specific input, and ensuring platform requirements and first-party guidelines are met. The team is described as passionate and dynamic, working to pioneer the future of football fandom.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end player experience for features, from concept through ship, including flows, wireframes, high-fidelity design, motion and haptic direction, and support through implementation.
  • Leverage and contribute to the established FC Design System, extending it for the handheld context.
  • Define input models and navigation paths for touch and platform-specific input, making the transitions between them feel seamless.
  • Prototype and evaluate on hardware early and often.
  • Partner with game designers, producers, engineers, research and product managers to make the feel of the interface a shared, deliberate outcome.
  • Work within platform requirements and first-party guidelines so that certification is a checkpoint rather than a late scramble.
  • Define when console layouts can scale dynamically to handheld screen size versus when they must diverge into bespoke, handheld-specific UI layouts to prevent compromised readability and interactivity.
  • Own the UX for platform-specific states and compliance requirements, designing transitions for device suspend/resume, inactivity dimming, offline play and variable network conditions.
  • Leverage best-in-class localization and accessibility standards in the work and advocate for what great looks like.
Required Experience & Qualifications
  • 3+ years designing shipped, player-facing interfaces for games or interactive entertainment, mobile, console or handheld.
  • Touch-first interaction design expertise, including direct manipulation, a coherent gesture vocabulary, thumb reach and grip zones, targets sized for fingers rather than cursors, scroll and drag physics with real weight, and immediate feedback in a world that has no hover state.
  • Ability to design for primary input, matching navigation, clear focus and selection states, and consistent conventions.
  • Strong visual craft evidenced in a portfolio, including typography, grid and layout, spacing and hierarchy, and colour used to carry state and meaning rather than decoration; work should have a point of view and aim to bring to life intuitive and innovative patterns.
  • Treating motion, sound and haptics as core material rather than final polish, designing moments where a transition, an audio cue and a rumble land together to make a selection feel physical.
  • Design system fluency, including the ability to build and document a component with its variants and states, make it scale across screen contexts, and articulate when a pattern should be reused, extended or deliberately broken.
  • Fluency in Figma at a systems level, with comfort using AI-based prototyping tools such as Claude Code, Figma Make, etc.
Preferred Skills
  • Shipped a title on handheld platforms (e.g., Mobile, Switch 1/2, ROG Ally, MSI Claw, Steam Deck).
  • Hands-on experience with Unity, Unreal/UMG, or a proprietary UI framework, enough to prototype in-engine or reason about what is implementable.
  • Experience with diegetic or in-world UI.
Benefits & Perks
  • 3 weeks of vacation per year to start.
  • 10 days per year of sick time.
  • Paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when welcoming a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave).
  • Extended health, dental and vision coverage.
  • Life insurance.
  • Disability insurance.
  • Retirement plan for regular full-time employees.
  • Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and other incentive programs.
