Job summary

The National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa is seeking an Exhibitions Manager to lead the planning, coordination and delivery of small- to medium-scale exhibitions and installations from concept to installation.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Exhibitions Management, you will coordinate multiple departments, manage budgets and schedules, oversee art loans, and liaise with artists, lenders and curators to ensure timely production and high standards.

Qualifications

• Degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Museum Studies or related field; equivalent experience.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in planning and management in exhibitions or cultural institutions.
• Minimum 1 year’s experience in financial management in public programs.
• Ability to develop, monitor and control budgets, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills.
• Strong communication, negotiation and mediation skills.
• Knowledge of museology and preventive conservation theory and practice.
• Knowledge of Microsoft applications (Teams, Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, Project).

Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Exhibitions Management, the Exhibitions Manager provides project leadership and is responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of assigned small- to medium-scale exhibitions and special installations from initial concept development through final production and installation. Under the guidance of the Senior Manager, the Exhibitions Manager coordinates the contributions of multiple departments and stakeholders; provides budget and timeline structure for project, maintains schedules and production deadlines; tracks and manages exhibition budgets, manages service contracts, and solicits Senior Manager, Exhibitions Management for involvement as required. The Exhibitions Manager liaises with internal services and external collaborators and clients (artists, lenders, museums, guest curators, etc.); and manages all aspects of incoming art loans for exhibition including documentation, lender liaison and administration.

Requirements

• Degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Museum Studies or other related field or equivalent experience;
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in planning and management, ideally in the Exhibitions area or in a cultural institution;
• Minimum of 1 year’s experience in financial management in public programs in a cultural institution;
• Ability to develop, monitor and control budgets, work under pressure and meet deadlines;
• Excellent leadership skills, interpersonal skills, organizational and analytical skills;
• Strong communication, negotiation and mediation skills;
• General preventive conservation theory and practice;
• Knowledge of museology;
• Knowledge of Microsoft applications (Teams, Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, Project)
