Job summary

MOCA Toronto is seeking an Exhibition Intern to assist the Exhibition Team with all facets of exhibitions and special projects. You will support development for 2026, research for 2027, and archival work, under mentorship from the Exhibition Manager and collaboration with Production Lead and Artistic Director.

The role offers exposure to production, care practices of exhibitions, and opportunities to gain valuable museum experience while contributing to MOCA’s exhibitions team.

Qualifications

  • College or university graduate from a program in Museum Studies, Curatorial, Archival Studies, Design and Production, or related field.
  • Familiarity with archival preservation, arrangement, and description.
  • Experience with textual, graphic materials, and artifacts.
  • Background and experience in creating virtual and physical exhibitions.
  • Strong research and writing skills and academic literacy.
  • Interest in contemporary art and the Toronto arts scene.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and professional demeanor.
  • Adaptable and able to work across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Performing research on exhibiting artists to understand their practice and needs.
  • Conducting research on materials, equipment, and services for production.
  • Support vendor relationships.
  • Maintain exhibition files by updating and organizing them.
  • Assist in preparing loan requests, loan agreements, checklists, and shipping docs.
  • Monitor condition of loans through phases of loan period.
  • File and maintain condition reports for artworks.

MOCA Toronto is seeking an Exhibition Intern to work with the Museum’s Exhibition Team and assist with all facets of the museum’s exhibition and special projects initiatives. The Intern will have the opportunity to support the development and implementation of exhibitions in 2026, research and planning for 2027 and beyond, and support with archival activities. This position will receive direct mentorship from MOCA’s Exhibition Manager, as well as work with the Production Lead and Exhibition Designer and Artistic Director. The Intern will play an integral role in the production and care practices of exhibitions as well as research towards future projects. This role will allow the Intern to gain valuable work experience in a museum while making an important contribution to MOCA’s exhibitions team. The research, production, and administration they conduct will shape future exhibitions and projects at the museum.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performing research on exhibiting artists to become fluent in their practice and the needs of their work
  • Conducting research on materials, equipment, and services required for production
  • Support vendor relationships
  • Maintaining exhibition files by updating and organizing them
  • Assisting in the preparation of loan requests, loan agreements, checklists and shipping documents
  • Monitor condition of loans through each phase of the loan period
  • Filing and maintaining condition reports for incoming and outgoing artworks
  • Assist with minor conservation and safety tasks
  • Maintaining photo documentation and credits, as well as fielding image and material requests
  • Assisting with the physical production and installation (as well as deinstallation) of artworks
Qualifications
Must-haves
  • College or University graduate from a program in Museum Studies, Curatorial, Archival Studies, Design and Production, or other related field
  • Familiarity with and some experience in the areas of archival preservation, arrangement, and description.
  • Experience working with textual, graphic materials, and artifacts.
  • Background and experience in creating virtual and physical exhibitions.
  • Demonstrated research and writing skills and academic literacy
  • A strong interest in contemporary art, production, design, administration, and conservation; familiarity with the arts landscape in Toronto
  • Good verbal/written communication skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of staff and publics in a courteous and professional manner
  • Adaptable

  • Proficiency in MS Office, database management and good keyboarding skills
  • be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada;
    Note: Non-Canadian graduates holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible.
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number);
  • be between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment;
  • be a graduate from college, CEGEP or university; and
  • be registered in the YCW online candidate inventory.

Note: Priority will be given to graduates that have not previously participated in YCW internship programs and that are unemployed or underemployed.
