The Exercise Therapist will fill a vital role in the Exercise Medicine program. They will conduct virtual and in person lifestyle counseling for patients and families enrolled in the Exercise Medicine program. They will help in maximizing the adherence of patients/families to their individual lifestyle plan, which may include physical activity (exercise programs and reduction of sedentary behaviours), sleep hygiene and nutrition recommendations. They will conduct virtual fitness assessments and collaborate with the program physiotherapist regarding exercise plan progression. They will design exercise and physical activity plans to suit each patient's specific needs, abilities and motivation level. They will educate patients and families about physical activity and sedentary behavior guidelines and healthy eating and sleep habits. They will participate in the implementation of various aspects of the Exercise Medicine Program's curriculum.
Here's What You'll Get To Do
- Work directly with the SickKids Exercise Medicine Program team to design safe and appropriate exercise programs for the patients enrolled in the program.
- Review and modify exercise programs when required under the direction of the MD and Physiotherapist of the program.
- Increase physical activity and reduce sedentary lifestyle behaviours
- Assist to control the rate of weight changes during the program enrollment.
- Conduct clinical fitness assessments and assist with formalize exercise plans and exercise testing
- Conduct virtual lifestyle counseling with patients with the treating physician and/or independently.
- Design exercise and physical activity plans to suit each patient's specific needs, abilities and motivation level
- Educate patients and families about basic fitness guidelines and participate in group education and support sessions with interdisciplinary team members
- Monitor adherence to lifestyle program
- Participate in the development and evaluation of various exercise curriculums
Here's What You'll Need
- Bachelor of Science, Kinesiology or Exercise Physiology; Or equivalent with training in exercise/fitness counseling
- Certification in Exercise Physiology and experience in conducting CardioPulmonary testing is an asset
- Personal Training Certification is an asset
- 2 to 3 years' experience in exercise counseling is an asset
- Experience working with adolescents with complex medical issues is an asset
- Experience in cardiac rehabilitation is an asset
- Experience in Motivational Interviewing is an asset
- Experience in creating exercise programs and/or physical activity counseling
- Have excellent time management, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently
- Comfortable working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
- A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity & inclusion

Employment type: Full time contract (13 months).
Hours Of Work
- Monday: 1030-1830 (Virtual)
- Tuesday: 0900-1700 (In Person)
- Wednesday and Thursday: 1200-2000 (Virtual)
- Friday: 0830-1630 (In Person)
