Summary:

As the Executive Director of Construction for NC Children's (NCC), this role will play a pivotal part in shaping the future of pediatric healthcare in the region. The Executive Director will collaborate with the VP of Real Estate, Development & Facilities (REDF) at NC Children's on campus development and construction, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission and vision.

Responsibilities:

  1. Construction & Development: Lead all phases of real estate construction for the NCC campus, from cost estimation and schematic design to permitting and construction. Manage procurement processes for construction managers, including contract reviews with legal. Work with project partners (architects, engineers, design professionals) to ensure development aligns with the master plan. Collaborate with the VP of REDF and NCC leadership to prioritize initiatives. Oversee stakeholder engagement and communication during all project phases. Ensure adherence to campus design principles and monitor project progress for compliance.
  2. Governance & Communication: Establish governance and communication structures for real estate projects, defining milestones, scope, schedule, and budget. Facilitate decision-making forums and provide regular updates to stakeholders. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders throughout all project stages.
  3. Leading People: Guide teams to fulfill NCC's mission, fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and trust-based workplace culture.
  4. Leading Change: Communicate project directions clearly, identify potential issues proactively, and implement mitigation strategies to keep projects on track.
  5. Results Oriented: Work closely with partners and teams to deliver high-quality results aligned with NCC's mission. Manage project expenditures and commitments to stay within budget.

Other Information:

  • Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree in construction management or related engineering field; Master's preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification Requirements: None required.
  • Professional Experience: At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience and 7 years of management experience in large-scale healthcare construction projects such as hospitals, campuses, or medical facilities.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Understanding of healthcare construction principles, excellent communication skills, knowledge of construction contracting processes, familiarity with hospital infrastructure, and healthcare regulatory standards (e.g., NFPA, DHSR, Joint Commission, CMS). Proven judgment and risk management skills.
