Job description

Executive Director -- New Canadians Centre Peterborough

Founded in 1979, the New Canadians Centre Peterborough (NCC) is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to supporting immigrants and refugees across the Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton, and Northumberland regions. NCC helps newcomers become full and equal members of Canadian society while fostering cultural integration in a welcoming community. With nearly 50 employees and over 250 volunteers representing dozens of countries and cultures, NCC serves more than 2,000 newcomers annually along their settlement journey in Canada. Since 2008, NCC has played a leadership role in the Peterborough Immigration Partnership, uniting over 50 organizations to advance immigrant integration strategies for the region.

At an exciting time in the organization's evolution, the Board seeks a collaborative leader for the role of Executive Director. The successful candidate will generate opportunities to build NCC as a strong, resilient, and sustainable organization, helping it expand its impact. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the strategic leadership, team development, and successful management of the organization via four direct reports.

The ideal Executive Director candidate will possess exceptional communication and listening skills, with a passion for NCC's mission. They will develop productive relationships with diverse stakeholders including the Board, staff, community partners, government representatives, and other service providers, both locally and across Ontario. The candidate should have well-developed business awareness, financial management, and fundraising skills, with a strong track record of managing and supporting dedicated staff and volunteers. Additionally, they will draw upon their emotional intelligence, cultural competence, humility, and political acumen to further NCC’s vision of a vibrant and inclusive community where newcomers to Canada thrive and are valued.

Requirements include 5+ years of progressive non-profit leadership experience and in-depth knowledge of issues affecting immigrants and refugees. Post-secondary education in a related field (or equivalent experience) is required. An understanding of anti-oppressive concepts and the settlement sector funding structure in Ontario is preferred, as is lived experience as a newcomer or as a member of an equity-deserving group.

This position is based in Peterborough, Ontario, with a target salary of $117,000-$130,000. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

If you are passionate about empowering newcomers and immigrants to thrive, consider contributing your leadership skills and experience to this rewarding, high-impact role. For more information or to submit your application confidentially, please email: EDNCC@pursuitadvisory.com.

The NCC is committed to being an equal opportunity employer. We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds, including members of immigrant and refugee communities, people of color, women, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and members of other marginalized groups. We provide accommodations throughout the hiring process as required by our Accessible Customer Service Policy. Applicants should inform us of their needs in advance.
