Summary

Job Description :

The Executive Director, Facilities, is accountable for the strategic leadership, stewardship, implementation, and administration of all College real property matters, including owned and leased campuses, physical infrastructure, facilities, and security services. This role supports the College’s mission, vision, and strategic goals through the effective management of physical assets.

The Executive Director will manage all aspects of Fanshawe’s facilities operations that includes, but is not limited to the facilities budget and space planning, energy management, trade shops, work control, fire maintenance, custodial, moving & events support, grounds& gardens, construction. The incumbent ensures sound management practices and regulatory compliance related to facility design, construction, operations, maintenance, environmental stewardship, occupational health and safety, and protective services. They provide leadership in the advancement of sustainability initiatives that align with the College’s broader environmental goals.

As the College’s Emergency Director, the Executive Director, Facilities, is responsible for leading the planning, implementation, and maintenance of the College’s corporate emergency plan, including preparedness, response, recovery, and business continuity planning for physical operations.

This role also plays a key part in ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors by upholding health and safety standards, promoting incident prevention, and ensuring compliance with all applicable legislation and codes related to facilities and infrastructure management.

The College is committed to the safety and well-being of all staff, students and visitors. In order to achieve this objective, employees are required to be active in health and safety and incident prevention by adhering to procedures and safe work practices as required by the corporate health and safety management system, and in accordance with relevant Health and Safety legislation and regulations.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Facilities Management, Construction Management, or a related field is required
  • Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Architecture, Project Management or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng), Architect (OAA), or CET (Certified Engineering Technologist), CFM (Certified Facility Manager), FMP (Facility Management Professional) preferred
  • Minimum 11 years relevant experience and progressive leadership in a wide range of facilities management and community safety services
  • Demonstrated success managing large-scale, multi-million dollar construction and renovation projects, including planning, budgeting, procurement, and construction oversight
  • In-depth knowledge of Ontario Building Code, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety legislation, and Public Sector Procurement
  • Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary teams, external contractors, and unionized / non-unionized staff
  • Experience with emergency management planning and business continuity for facilities
  • Strong record of sustainability leadership and energy conservation initiatives is an asset
  • Proven experience in the supervision of union and non-unionized staff
  • Experience working in an educational setting preferred
