WHO IS YWITT?

YWITT is located on the territory of the self-governing Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. Since its incorporation in August 2000, YWITT has been working as a feminist, community non-profit organization based in Whitehorse, Yukon, to advance equality in trades and technology careers. YWITT works alongside community partners and runs programs and initiatives. This includes experiential workshops, advocacy support, community-led research and policy work.

WHAT IS THE JOB?

The Executive Director (ED) of YWITT receives direction from a volunteer Board of Directors (Board). The ED leads the organization to ensure YWITT meets its goals as a non-profit, helping to facilitate equity and inclusion for women and gender-diverse folks in the trades and technology sectors through advocacy, education and support. They have the prerogative to define their own duties and responsibilities to fulfill the mission and vision of the organization.

The Executive Director holds responsibility for generating revenue, managing YWITT’s staff team, its infrastructure and programming - the entire YWITT operation. The Board is a policy governance Board and, as such, intentionally removes itself from nearly all day-to-day operations.

YWITT has a significant role to play in leading inclusion initiatives in the trades industry in the Yukon in a financially viable and sustainable manner, applying a vision that is forward thinking and inspired.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Executive Director sets the direction and determines the activities of the organization, within the goals, as defined by the Board.

    • Hire and manage staff to cultivate a dynamic and inclusive workplace.
    • Oversee day-to-day operations of the organization.
    • Serve as the liaison between the Board and the organization.
    • Act as a professional, diplomatic, knowledgeable spokesperson for YWITT.
    • Develop and maintain professional relationships with relevant government, business and industry employees, as well as elected officials, stakeholders and rights holders - municipal, territorial, First Nation, federal.
    • Collaborate with other ‘like’ service organizations to ensure best practices, information sharing and capacity building.
    • Project YWITT to the public as a non-profit that takes its territorial role seriously, acts with integrity and operates under the highest professional standards at all times.
    • Maintain accountability with the Board through meeting reporting requirements, attendance at monthly Board meetings, attendance at governance training meeting(s) (1-2 a year) and at occasional special Board meetings and leading the Annual General Meeting.
  • Financial Management
    • Develop and administer all budgets and financial projections in a fiscally responsible manner.
    • Manage the efficient and effective use of the agency’s resources.
    • Identify and resource existing capital funding.
    • Negotiate funding agreements or contracts, ensuring contractual obligations are met.
  • Planning and Strategic Initiatives
    • Design and manage projects and programs to fulfill the mission and vision of the organization.
    • Provide knowledge, industry-based experience and current trend information to Board.
    • Suggest opportunities for the Board.
  • Organizational Management
    • Develop policies and procedures as required.
    • Oversee the management of all YWITT’s assets, ensuring their security and maintenance.
