About Us

Women’s Interval Home is a non-profit charitable organization which provides emergency shelter and counselling services to women who have experienced abuse and their children in Sarnia-Lambton. Founded in 1977, the organization provides 24-hour emergency and short-term residential shelter, crisis support, individual and group counselling, transitional services, and child witness counselling services. We strive to end the cycle of violence against women in our society by working in collaboration with local partners and community members. A dedicated team of approximately 30 full-time and part-time staff work diligently to support women and children impacted by violence in our community.

About the Position

Women’s Interval Home is seeking an innovative Executive Director to build on our exceptional record of providing quality services to women and children impacted by intimate partner violence in Sarnia and Lambton County. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director plans, organizes, and administers all agency activities, programs, and operations directly or through other reporting managers consistent with Board approved agency policies, goals, and objectives and in accordance with legal, statutory, constitutional, and other requirements. The Executive Director ensures that a high standard of client-based program delivery is maintained and promotes the agency’s activities through contact with the community, business organizations, government, and the public. This includes fostering a positive and safe work environment, empowering staff, and ensuring high-quality support services for the women and children served. The Executive Director provides leadership to the management team, promotes all agency services, raises awareness of domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking. The Executive Director represents the organization on various community committees. Additionally, they implement and execute the organization’s strategic plan, operational plans, and other community initiatives to ensure accountability to funding bodies, enhance service quality, and advance the agency’s mission.

What You Will Be Doing:

  1. Be part of a high performing, strong and effective management team
  2. Implement and manage a person-centered care philosophy for clients and services
  3. Plan, coordinate, direct and monitor the effectiveness of the overall operational activities of Women’s Interval Home’s programs in accordance with the strategic direction of the Board of Directors
  4. Actively utilize and leverage established standards and resources to cultivate an optimal work environment, ensuring that managers and direct support team members are fully engaged in delivering caring and effective services
  5. Play a leadership role in forging relationships with external stakeholders
  6. Understand and interpret various regulations that govern support services (provincial legislation, provincial directives and company policies and team members (e.g. Collective Agreement, Occupational Health and Safety Act, HR policies and procedures) to ensure compliance for team members, residents and families
  7. Support and participate on occasion with the agency on-call system
  8. Securing various forms of funding, including demonstrated success with grants and donations.
  9. Managing daily financial transactions, preparing and monitoring budgets, and presenting financial reports to funders

About You

Ideal candidates for this position will share our commitment to serving the people of Sarnia-Lambton and will bring a variety of experiences and attributes to Women’s Interval Home, including:

  1. Completion of a post-secondary degree (master’s or above) in Social Sciences, Business, Public Administration, or other related degree
  2. A minimum of five years of senior management experience including financial control experience in the community social service sector with a demonstrated and in-depth working knowledge of community-based programs and services, funding sources, and community relations
  3. Expertise in the field of domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking; with extensive knowledge of the social service network in Sarnia-Lambton
  4. Excellent presentation, public relations, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  5. Demonstrated track record of effective team management, budget management and operational excellence
  6. Well-developed planning, organizing, controlling and negotiation, bargaining, and decision-making skills in a unionized and non-unionized environment
  7. Ability to deal tactfully with sensitive issues
  8. Knowledge of fundraising methodologies and a track record of successful grant writing
  9. Valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation
  10. Commitment to continued professional development.
  11. Knowledge of community resources and established networks with social services and government agencies.
  12. Knowledge of the legal system and issues related to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.
  13. Knowledge of, and experience with, restorative justice practices.
