The North Shore Mountain Bike Association is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to caring for and advocating for a sustainable, inclusive, and accessible trail network on Vancouver’s North Shore. We work closely with land managers, stakeholders, and our vibrant community to maintain the trails and ensure the long-term health of this iconic riding area.
Role Summary
The Executive Director (ED) is the NSMBA’s senior leader and chief spokesperson, responsible for advancing the organization’s mission and ensuring its long-term sustainability. The ED provides strategic leadership, drives community and stakeholder engagement, manages operations, and supports a passionate team of staff, contractors, and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Governance
- Work collaboratively with the Board to develop and execute the NSMBA’s strategic plan and goals
- Provide transparent, timely reporting to the Board on organizational performance, risks, and opportunities
- Ensure the organization operates in compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and agreements
- Champion the NSMBA’s mission and values across all areas of work
- Identify the roles and staffing that the organization needs to succeed
- Provide leadership and support to staff, volunteers, and builders
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative organizational culture
- Empower volunteers and Trail Adoption Program (TAP) partners to contribute meaningfully to the NSMBA’s mission
Trail Stewardship & Advocacy
- Support the planning and delivery of trail maintenance, restoration, and advocacy initiatives
- Work with staff, Trail Crew, contractors, and volunteers to deliver high-quality trail projects
- Advocate for trail access, sustainability, and inclusion on behalf of the community
Community & Stakeholder Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with land managers, government agencies, Indigenous communities, sponsors, members, and the broader trail community
- Represent the organisation as the public face and primary spokesperson
- Lead transparent, empathetic, and consistent communication with members and the public, particularly around sensitive or complex issues
- Collaborate with industry and regional organizations to elevate the voice of the NSMBA
Operations & Financial Management
- Oversee day-to-day operations, including programs, staffing, partnerships, and infrastructure projects
- Develop and manage the annual budget (in collaboration with the Board), ensuring financial accountability and sustainability
- Pursue new revenue streams, including grants, sponsorships, donations, and membership growth
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e. Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid work permit)
- Proven leadership experience in a non-profit, community, or outdoor recreation organization
- Knowledge of the North Shore trail network, mountain biking culture, or outdoor recreation sector
- Experience managing staff, volunteers, and/or contractors
- Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders and navigating complex community issues
- Strong financial management skills and experience managing budgets
- Strong problem solving skills, organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
- Reliable access to transportation required for some local travel within the Lower Mainland
- Availability occasionally outside of regular business hours to attend community, committee and land manager meetings
Preferred
- Experience working with land managers, municipalities, and/or Indigenous communities
- Familiarity with trail stewardship, advocacy, and environmental sustainability
- Fundraising, sponsorship, or grant-writing experience
- Strong conflict resolution and community engagement skills
- Project or program management experience
Salary & Benefits
- Salary range: $70k - $90k, commensurate with experience
- Employment benefits include supplemental health insurance, a flexible work schedule and the ability to work up to 75% from home
