About the Organization

The Family Violence Consortium of Manitoba (FVCM) Backbone Organization is a nonprofit entity serving as the coordinating body for a network of 30+ organizations collectively known asThe Collective. Through aCollective Impact approach, the organization seeks to improve outcomes for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) by fostering collaboration, building capacity, driving shared advocacy, and supporting systems-level change.

FVCM operates from a foundation ofintersectionality, decolonial practice, trauma-informed care, and survivor-centred leadership, engaging stakeholders that span government, health care, social services, Indigenous leadership, education, funders, law enforcement, and community advocates.

The Opportunity

On behalf of FVCM, we are seeking anExecutive Director (ED)to lead the next phase of this growing, cross-sector initiative. This is a rare opportunity for a visionary and action-oriented leader to guide an ambitious and values-driven movement for systemic change in Manitoba’s GBV sector.

This role is both strategic and hands-on. It is ideal for a leader who is energized by complexity, motivated by social impact, and skilled in relationship-building across sectors, communities, and levels of power. The ED will work closely with the Advisory Committee, Collective members, staff, and community allies to align efforts, build trust, and ensure the long-term success of the backbone organization.

What You’ll Be Leading

Strategic Leadership and Vision

• Guide the Collective in advancing shared goals and a common vision through an inclusive, sector-informed governance structure.
• Collaborate with the Advisory Committee to ensure long-term strategic alignment.
• Lead implementation of succession and sustainability planning for long-term impact.
• Balance strategy with execution—especially during the organization's early growth.

Relationship Building and Collaboration

• Cultivate strong, trust-based relationships across diverse partners, with attention to equity and historical exclusion.
• Serve as lead convener, bridging competing priorities and building shared commitment.
• Represent the GBV sector while elevating survivor and community voices.
• Support sector-wide capacity-building initiatives alongside emerging team roles.

Resource Development

• Design and lead a multi-year fundraising strategy that includes grants, donor engagement, and equitable resource distribution.
• Drive early-stage fund development efforts directly, with the opportunity to grow a dedicated team over time.

Policy Advocacy and Sector Voice

• Bring a strong understanding of government processes and levers for change, using strategic judgment to know when and how to push for systems-level reform.
• Advance community-informed policy and funding reforms at multiple levels of government.
• Promote decolonial and equity-driven advocacy strategies, grounded in lived experience.
• Partner on public awareness initiatives and be media-ready when needed, while knowing when to step aside.
• Build strong relationships with policymakers, elected officials, and public servants.
• Advocate for the sector by preparing tools like briefing notes and business cases, and by navigating shifting political priorities.

Data and Impact

• Support future development of a shared measurement and learning framework in collaboration with a (future) Research and Data Manager.
• Report regularly on progress, outcomes, and insights to funders, the Collective, and the Advisory Committee.
• Foster a culture of learning, reflection, and accountability across the initiative.

Organizational Operations

• Lead financial strategy, budgeting, and risk management.
• Maintain strong internal systems that reflect the organization’s flexible, collaborative model.
• Navigate and strengthen shared governance structures that support distributed leadership.

Who You Are

Ideal Qualifications

• 7–10 years of progressive senior leadership in nonprofit, public, health, or social service sectors.
• Deep knowledge of Manitoba’s GBV landscape and a demonstrated commitment to decolonial, intersectional, and survivor-centred work.
• Experience working at the intersection of nonprofit and government systems, with a strong grasp of public policy, political environments, and how to influence decision-makers effectively.
• Proven success in systems-level change, advocacy, and fundraising.
• Expertise in financial oversight, strategic planning, and operational leadership.
• Skilled in fostering inclusive, psychologically safe teams and navigating complexity with humility and emotional intelligence.
• Experience working in shared or advisory governance models and in roles that evolve with sector needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading Collective Impact or multi-stakeholder initiatives.
• Bilingual in English and French and/or fluent in languages commonly spoken in Manitoba.
