The Campbell River Art Gallery (CRAG) is seeking an experienced and passionate leader for our contemporary art organization.

The CRAG opened its doors in 1994.
Located on the unceded traditional territory of the Liǧʷiɫdax̌ʷ people; the We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum, and Kwiakah First Nations, in the heart of Campbell River’s downtown community, the CRAG fulfills its Vision and Mission focusing on decolonization, diversity, care, and inclusion.
The gallery’s mission is to welcome and engage communities through the work of professional artists, cultural leaders, and Knowledge Keepers.
We are committed to serving the public through exhibitions and programs by visual and media artists from Indigenous Nations and Canada. Our specific focus is on supporting projects from under-represented positions within contemporary art practice.

The Opportunity
As Executive Director, you will report to the Board of Directors and be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the CRAG. You will oversee operations, finances, personnel, fundraising, and community engagement, while supporting the community and artistic vision of the organization.
Key Accountabilities
● Provide strategic leadership and organizational direction;
● Develop operational budgets and forecasts;
● Ensure the maintenance of financial records and reports, with monthly reports for Board of Directors approval;
● Develop and execute fundraising strategies, including donor and sponsorship programs as well as social enterprise ventures and special events;
● Maintain relationships with provincial, federal and local government funding agencies;
● Identify all applicable grant opportunities on a yearly basis and work with staff to deliver in a timely manner on content, deadlines, and support materials. Maintain complete records of government funding and grant proposals;
● Liaise with city and regional organizations, funders and businesses, and network with related arts, business, and cultural organizations;
● Develop new community and corporate partnerships;
● Work in partnership with First Nations in the region to deliver various arts programs;
● Represent the organization at community and sector events and functions and deliver speeches;
● Manage core staff and their professional development;
● Manage the CRAG volunteer program;
● Work with the CRAG curator to deliver high standard professional contemporary art exhibitions that align with the organization’s vision and mission;
● Ensure smooth daily operations of the Gallery and its programs;
● Support the Board and its committees, as required; and provide written and verbal reports to the Board monthly;
● Maintain compliance with all policies, records, and insurance requirements.
Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree or higher in business administration, cultural organizational management, creative arts, or in another relevant discipline;
● A minimum of 5 years’ leadership experience, preferably with experience in the arts and culture sector;
● A minimum of 3 years of experience managing inclusive and effective teams;
● A minimum of 3 years working on fundraising campaigns and funding diversification strategies;
● A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a leadership role in the not-for-profit sector;
● A minimum of 2 years’ experience managing organizational budgets and producing financial forecasts;
● A minimum of 2 years developing communications and marketing strategies.
Preferences
● Experience reporting to a Board of Directors
● Experience in marketing and communication
● Experience working in the Contemporary Arts sector in Canada

● Willingness to work on site at the Campbell River Art Gallery.
