Overview
As an Executive Commercial Underwriter for Environmental Liability (EIL), you will be responsible for analyzing the acceptability of business opportunities according to company guidelines. This includes reviewing and pricing new submissions, renewals, and endorsements.
You will help drive the growth and profitability of SPGC by building broker relationships and leveraging your expertise, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit to develop your book. Responsibilities
- Perform risk analysis using internal and external data to quote, negotiate, and authorize policies for risks of moderate to high complexity, adhering to company guidelines and retention goals;
- Lead a team of underwriters, handling EIL-centric package policies, complex risks, and escalations;
- Develop and support professional partnerships with brokers through prompt service, proactive responses, and ownership of issues with a solution-oriented approach;
- Pursue and achieve production targets;
- Occasionally travel to meet with brokers and promote our business;
- Make decisions based on incomplete information;
- Communicate decisions promptly and professionally;
- Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external parties, attending industry events as needed;
- Negotiate coverage within delegated authority;
- Manage and grow a profitable book of business;
- Ensure compliance with corporate guidelines and delegated authority;
- Meet deadlines and production targets, taking ownership of activities;
- Handle pressure effectively, maintaining a positive outlook and recovering quickly from setbacks;
- Take responsibility for learning and implementing new ideas, methods, and technologies;
- Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills;
- Mentor and develop less experienced team members;
- Think strategically, set priorities, and implement plans aligned with long-term company interests;
- Ensure files are complete, compliant, and of high quality, supporting a paperless environment;
- Complete loss reports and post-claim underwriting reviews.
Qualifications
You are a good fit if you have:
- At least 10 years of Commercial P&C Underwriting experience, including 5 years in Environmental Liability Underwriting;
- Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP), CAIB, or equivalent;
- Level 2 Insurance General Agent License or ability to qualify within 90 days;
- Existing industry relationships to leverage for business growth;
- Advanced knowledge of Environmental Liability and associated risks;
- Ability to lead business development meetings with brokers;
- Leadership traits to guide a team;
- Participation in industry events such as broker conventions;
- Technical proficiency with our computer programs;
- Prior MGA experience is preferred.
