Description

The Alberta Children's Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI) in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for an Excursion Planner Support. This Fixed-Term, Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 4 months. Recurring Part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.

The Student Conference Coordinators will support the planning and execution of the 7th International Indigenous Voices in Social Work Conference (IIVSW). This will focus on organizing professional excursions for conference delegates within Calgary and across Treaty 7 territories, highlighting community and organizational Indigenous approaches to social work and child health and wellness.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

  1. Plan and coordinate excursions for up to 400 conference delegates to visit Indigenous social work and child health and wellness organizations and/or cultural sites within Calgary and First Nations communities in the Treaty 7 region
  2. Connect with and maintain respectful relationships and communications with First Nations communities, Indigenous social work and child health and wellness organizations, and the IIVSW organizing committee
  3. Follow cultural protocols when engaging with First Nations communities and Indigenous social work and child health and wellness organizations.
  4. Coordinate logistics for First Nations community and Indigenous organization visits, including transportation and scheduling
  5. Manage honoraria, gifting, and offerings during First Nations community and Indigenous organization engagements
  6. Support conference logistics during the main event (August 12-15, 2025)

Qualifications / Requirements:

  1. Strong understanding of Indigenous cultural protocols
  2. Excellent relationship-building and communication skills
  3. Strong organizational and planning abilities
  4. Demonstrated commitment to being a good relative in Indigenous contexts
  5. Ability to travel to First Nations communities in the Treaty 7 region.
  6. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  7. Must have $1 million in vehicle personal liability insurance
  8. Must have vehicle insurance specifically for business travel
  9. Must complete UCalgary’s online “Defensive Driving Course” prior to travelling for business purposes.
