Job description

Reporting to the Foreman, the Excavator Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the excavator. The operator will also perform assigned duties to ensure that completed work meets contract specifications.

How You’ll Add Value
  • Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
  • Collaborate with ground personnel in the excavation and installation of pipes, ensuring proper line and grade
  • Ensure trenches are excavated to the correct depth, grade, and properly sloped
  • Understand and adhere to ground disturbance requirements
  • Ensure proper rigging of pipes, manhole barrels, and other materials, adhering to safe procedures during material lowering
  • Conduct routine cleaning, maintenance, and safety checks on equipment to ensure smooth operation
  • Perform pre-operational checks, including cleaning, lubricating, and refueling equipment as needed
  • Minimize excavation time to maintain production schedule while cutting grade
  • Perform trench work in compliance with OH&S regulations
  • Operate additional heavy equipment as required to support project needs
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:
Qualifications & Experience
  • 4+ years of experience as an excavator operator
  • Preference will be given to operators with deep trenching experience for underground utilities and finishing operators for earthworks projects.
  • Physically able to safely lift and carry 40 lbs regularly
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
  • Willing to travel and work out of town for short, fixed-term periods, as needed
