Job description

Reporting to the Foreman, the Excavator Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the excavator and for performing duties that ensure work meets contract specifications.

How You’ll Add Value
  • Promote a safe and productive work environment by actively contributing to safety culture
  • Work with ground personnel to excavate and install pipes, ensuring proper line and grade
  • Excavate trenches to specified depth, grade, and slope
  • Follow ground disturbance requirements
  • Properly rig pipes, manhole barrels, and other materials, adhering to safety procedures during lowering
  • Perform routine maintenance and safety checks on equipment
  • Conduct pre-operational checks, including cleaning, lubricating, and refueling
  • Minimize excavation time to meet production schedules while maintaining grade
  • Perform trench work in compliance with OH&S regulations
  • Operate additional heavy equipment as needed for project support
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:
Qualifications & Experience
  • At least 4 years of experience operating excavators
  • Experience with deep trenching for utilities and earthworks is preferred
  • Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs safely
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driving record (no more than 6 demerits, no major infractions)
  • Willingness to travel and work out of town for short periods
