Excavator Operator (Heavy Construction Equipment Operator)

Job Locations: Based in Calgary, AB, with travel to various locations in Calgary and surrounding areas, AB

Wage: $31.80 (starting rate) – $42.80 per hour (salary increases based on skills and experience, and annual reviews, per Company policy)

Employment terms and conditions: Permanent, Full-Time (30 to 70 hours/week, weather-dependent); Morning, Day, Weekend, Overtime

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

Qualifications & Experience

Job requirements:

Language: Basic English

Education: Not required

Experience: 1 year of related experience

Type of heavy equipment operated: Excavator, Grader, Packer, Bulldozer

Area of work: Industrial/commercial/institutional (ICI) construction, Road construction, Underground, Deep and shallow utilities; Backfilling, Ditching, Excavation, Land clearing, Sub-grade excavating, Trenching

Work Site Environment: Outdoor setting, possible inclement weather, heat, and humidity

Work conditions and physical capabilities: Physically demanding, attention to detail, fast-paced environment, ability to repetitively lift and carry at least 30 lbs

Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots

Security and safety: Driving record check may be required; compliance with drug and alcohol testing policies

Duties:

Reporting to the Foreman, responsible for the safe and efficient operation of an excavator, ensuring work is completed according to company policies, safety standards, and contract specifications.

• Operate excavator safely, maintaining awareness of surroundings, especially on public roadways.
• Perform equipment maintenance, including cleaning, lubricating, and refilling tanks.
• Operate computer-controlled equipment.
• Conduct daily safety and maintenance checks.
• Excavate trenches to proper depth/grade, meeting OH&S requirements.
• Manage crane material and equipment, understanding rigging processes.
• Follow ground crew directions for excavation, grading, craning, and gravel placement.
• Operate equipment in active sites with other heavy machinery and personnel, maintaining safety awareness.
• Understand issues related to ground disturbance.
• Operate related equipment such as graders and packers as needed.
• Perform other related duties as required at construction sites.
