Job description

SaskEnergy is Saskatchewan’s natural gas distribution and transportation company serving residential, farm, commercial, and industrial customers. SaskEnergy owns and operates nearly 72,000 kilometres of distribution lines and more than 15,000 kilometres of transmission gas lines. SaskEnergy plays a critical role in delivering essential energy to their customers in a way that meets their evolving expectations. Through the safe, reliable and affordable delivery of natural gas, along with energy efficiency and public safety programming, SaskEnergy strives to offer a high level of service while providing customers with innovative energy solutions.

SaskEnergy is seeking a dynamic, visionary executive to join its leadership team as Executive Vice President (EVP), Stakeholder Engagement, Chief Legal Officer & Corporate Secretary. This multifaceted role offers a unique platform to shape Saskatchewan’s energy future through an integrated portfolio spanning legal affairs, corporate governance, and stakeholder engagement.

Reporting directly to the President & CEO and serving as Corporate Secretary to the Board of Directors, the EVP will act as a strategic catalyst across the enterprise—guiding public policy alignment, leading regulatory compliance, championing Indigenous reconciliation, and stewarding public trust. This is more than a legal leadership role—it’s a call to public service at the highest level, with the ability to influence sustainable development, community impact, and energy transition in one of Canada’s most vital sectors.

At SaskEnergy, a Crown corporation that serves over 400,000 customers and reaches 93% of the province’s communities, the EVP will operate at the intersection of energy, environment, and ethics. Whether advancing emissions-reduction targets, advising on complex infrastructure projects, or strengthening community relationships, the successful candidate will help drive a people-centered strategy that aligns reliability, affordability, and sustainability.

This role is ideal for a seasoned legal executive who thrives in multi-stakeholder environments, has a passion for governance excellence, and brings an authentic commitment to Indigenous engagement and community well-being. It is an opportunity to lead with integrity, shape policy in the public interest, and contribute meaningfully to Saskatchewan’s energy resilience and economic future.

The successful candidate will embody a rare combination of legal depth, executive presence, ESG fluency, and an unwavering dedication to public purpose and most of all exceptional leadership skills. They are not only an accomplished legal leader but also a trusted voice in the boardroom, a bridge-builder in communities, and a champion for meaningful reconciliation and sustainability.

Professional Qualifications

  • Legal Acumen: Holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) or Juris Doctor (J.D.) and is a member in good standing (or eligible) with the Law Society of Saskatchewan. Brings 15+ years of progressive legal and business leadership, including experience as General Counsel, CLO, or a senior legal executive.
  • Governance Leadership: Demonstrated experience serving as Corporate Secretary or Board advisor within a regulated, Crown, or public sector entity. Brings a strong understanding of fiduciary responsibilities, Crown corporation governance frameworks, and public sector accountability.
  • Public Utility & Regulatory Insight: Ideally possesses experience in utility, energy, infrastructure, or natural resources environment. Deep familiarity with corporate/commercial law, regulatory regimes, Indigenous law, and compliance management.

The ideal candidate is a persuasive communicator and trusted liaison across government, Indigenous, and community stakeholders, with strong skills in policy, media, and crisis response. They are a change-driven leader who integrates sustainability and equity into strategy, and a collaborative systems thinker who fosters cross-functional alignment and high-performing teams. Grounded in public service values, they lead with empathy, cultural awareness, and the resilience to navigate complexity with integrity.
