We are looking for a dynamic and organized Events & Engagement Specialist to bring our spaces, platforms, and partnerships to life. This unique role combines content creation, community engagement, and event delivery—curating vibrant summer programming (Ship Point Market, Artists on the Causeway) alongside corporate events and sponsorships. You'll spark meaningful connections—online and in-person—through thoughtful digital storytelling and seamless event execution. Digital Engagement & Content Creation
- Develop and execute strategies to grow and engage audiences across GVHA’s digital platforms, driving meaningful interactions that align with our brand voice and values
- Manage day-to-day digital content across social channels (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Facebook)
- Develop creative digital content marketing campaigns and storytelling initiatives that engage priority audiences and promote events, programs, and partnerships
- Capture and curate original photo and video content—highlighting event activations, public art, local culture, and behind-the-scenes moments that showcase the vibrancy of Victoria’s working harbour
- Edit and repurpose content for different formats, including reels, stories, carousels, and short-form video—ensuring alignment with each platform’s best practices and current trends
- Collaborate with internal teams and community partners to source stories, visuals, and testimonials
- Maintain an organized content library and coordinate with photographers/videographers to source compelling visuals when needed
- Track performance metrics (reach, engagement, shares, sentiment) and audience feedback to optimize content and share successes
- Support influencer or ambassador programs where applicable
- Support email marketing campaigns and website updates
Event Management & Placemaking
- Coordinate and manage logistics for seasonal programming and events (e.g., markets, festivals, etc.)
- Book, liaise with, and support performers, artists, and vendors
- Support permitting, site setup, staffing, and day-of execution
- Work with internal teams and partners to ensure events are inclusive, safe, and well-promoted
- Help animate public spaces in alignment with strategic goals and community values
- Liaise with internal departments on matters of protocol, event procedures, and safety guidelines
- Represent GVHA on the City of Victoria’s Special Event Technical Committee, as required
Sponsorships & Commercial Activation
- Assist in the development of an event and community sponsorship strategy
- Help coordinate and fulfill benefits for sponsored events and activations
- Develop and oversee corporate event rentals and film crews—handling inquiries, building relationships, and supporting on-site execution
Experience and Education
- 2–4 years of experience in digital marketing, social media, community programming, event production, and/or sponsorship/partnerships
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or a related discipline
- Familiarity with paid digital ads and social media platforms (HootSuite, Meta, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Video editing or short-form content creation experience is a bonus
- Experience working in public-facing roles or diverse community settings
Working Conditions
- Regular, full-time position (37.5 hours/week)
- Office environment and site/field environment
- Hybrid office/work-from-home arrangement available after 3 months of service
- Occasional evenings and/or weekends due to operational requirements and/or to participate in events
- Available on call for after-hours events assistance as needed
- Exposure to all weather and operating conditions within an indoor and outdoor event execution context
- May stand or sit for extended periods
- Physical ability to set-up and strike tents, tables, chairs, audio/visual equipment and other event equipment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong communication and storytelling skills — written, visual, and interpersonal
- Organized, flexible, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Hands-on experience with social media platforms and tools (Hootsuite, Canva, etc.)
- Creative mindset with an eye for design (basic Canva/Adobe experience a plus)
- Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment
- Ability to work evenings/weekends, particularly during the spring and summer event season
- Event permitting or production experience an asset
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
- Working knowledge and understanding of the importance of First Nations protocols, specifically those of the Lək̓ʷəŋən People
- Capable of coordinating students and event volunteers, as needed
