Job summary

The University of Lethbridge is seeking an Event Set Up Operator (Facilities Operations 5) to join Building Maintenance. You will manage deliveries of event equipment, set up and takedown events, and coordinate with campus stakeholders to ensure accurate configurations.

Must have a high school diploma and at least 12 months of related work; valid Class 5 driver’s license; willingness to work evenings and weekends; strong English communication; and safety training.

  • Occasionally work evenings and weekends to accommodate events.

The University of Lethbridge Building Maintenance department is seeking a skilled Events Set Up Operator (Facilities Operations 5) to join our team as soon as possible. In this role, you will report to the Manager of Building Maintenance and Grounds and will be responsible for fulfilling work orders related to event setups and takedowns.

Events at our university often have tight schedules, demanding excellent organizational skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. You will manage deliveries of event equipment like tables and chairs on a daily basis, ensuring efficient storage room inventories to promptly respond to event requests.

As you will interact with campus stakeholders regularly, strong communication skills are crucial. While event work orders typically cover all necessary items, adjustments may be needed on the event day, requiring collaboration with stakeholders to ensure setups are correct. You will also coordinate with Building Maintenance Operators for larger event setups and takedowns, and occasionally work evenings and weekends to accommodate various event needs.

During downtime from events, you will assist Building Maintenance Operators with tasks such as changing lights, office moves, and other general maintenance duties.

Position Qualifications
  • High school diploma
  • At least 12 months of related work experience
  • High energy and goal orientated individual
  • Effective English reading, verbal, and written communication skills at the appropriate level for the position
  • Reliable, positive, and detail oriented with excellent time management skills
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work (i.e. including bending, twisting, climbing stairs, pushing, and pulling, regular lifting of 15 kg and occasional lifting of 30 kg) in a safe and efficient manner
  • A proven ability to maintain effective working relationships and provide quality customer service
  • Standard first aid and CPR certification is desired
  • Some experience with supervising would be considered an asset
  • A valid unrestricted Class 5 Driver's License with no more than 6 demerits and submission of a motor vehicle record (driver abstract) dated within 3 months of the posting close is required
  • The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
