Job Description

TED is seeking an Event Floorplanner (Technical Draftsperson) to bring large‑scale event concepts to life through precise, functional, and creative spatial design.

In this role, you’ll translate TED’s visionary event ideas into detailed, compliant, and buildable layouts — working across design, operations, and production teams. From CAD drafting to 3D visualization and vendor coordination, you’ll help shape the look and flow of world‑class event environments that balance beauty, efficiency, and accessibility.

This position blends technical drafting expertise with hands‑on production insight, supporting the full lifecycle of event design and execution. The ideal candidate is as comfortable interpreting creative sketches as they are refining millimetre‑perfect layouts for large‑scale installations.

Please include your resume and a portfolio of recent work (CAD drawings, renderings, or event layouts) when applying.

Drafting + Floorplanning
  • Prepare accurate, detailed floorplans using AutoCAD, Vectorworks, or similar drafting software.
  • Translate conceptual sketches into operational layouts that meet safety, accessibility, and aesthetic standards.
  • Review and interpret architectural, structural, and civil drawings to align plans with venue specifications.
  • Develop 3D renderings and visualizations using SketchUp, Cinema 4D, or equivalent tools.
  • Produce visual presentations and design boards in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Ensure all designs comply with building codes, accessibility, and universal design principles.
  • Maintain organized archives of drawings, updates, and revisions for team reference.
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure layouts are functional, cost‑effective, and on brand.
Cross‑Team Collaboration + Documentation
  • Partner closely with Event Managers, Creative, and Production teams to align spatial planning with event design intent.
  • Contribute to workflow improvements, templates, and shared documentation.
  • Track progress, versions, and approvals using Airtable, Google Suite, and Miro.
  • Provide regular updates on project timelines, design iterations, and deliverables.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining precision under tight deadlines.
Qualifications
  • 2–4 years’ experience as a draftsperson, CAD technician, event designer, or interior designer.
  • Diploma or degree in Event Management, Interior Design, Architecture, or related field (preferred).
  • AutoCAD certification required; proficiency in Vectorworks and SketchUp a strong asset.
  • Experience with visualization tools such as 3DS Max, V‑Ray, Cinema 4D, or Social Tables.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Familiarity with Airtable, Google Workspace, and Miro for documentation and collaboration.
  • Strong understanding of space planning, accessibility, and universal design principles.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines independently.
  • Ability to balance creative and technical considerations, working fluidly between teams.
