Position: Event Facilitator

Reports to: Director, Sales and Events

Position Description

We seek enthusiastic and energetic team members interested in the events and hospitality industry. Under the supervision of the Event Coordinator, the Event Facilitator will be responsible for executing successful events.

Science World, a prominent Vancouver landmark located on False Creek, hosts a variety of events year-round. Our unique venue offers outdoor event spaces, interactive galleries, and theaters, making us a preferred location for weddings, rentals, and corporate events.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with the event lead at the start of each shift to review setup requirements and ensure readiness for the rental client
  • Assist with event setup and teardown, maintaining a clean, safe, and secure environment
  • Ensure clients, guests, and vendors adhere to facility guidelines
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies such as fires or other incidents
  • Provide excellent customer service to all guests and clients
  • Maintain security and safety during events
  • Keep the Facility Rentals storage area organized and report needed repairs or replacements
  • Respond promptly to emails, manage shift schedules, and complete timesheets accurately
  • Operate in alignment with Science World's culture and values
  • Perform any other duties necessary to support event operations
Qualifications
  • Experience in the event and hospitality industry is preferred; a minimum high school diploma is required
  • Strong customer service and communication skills; ability to engage with guests on various levels
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment
  • Basic knowledge of audio-visual equipment is an asset
  • Ability to take initiative, troubleshoot, and resolve issues promptly
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, late nights, and early mornings; minimum monthly availability required
  • Ability to perform some heavy lifting

This position is unionized, represented by CUPE 1004, with a pay rate of $20.41/hour.

Upon successful completion of probation, employees are eligible for voluntary RRSP/TFSA plans and paid time off (sick and wellness days).
