Evening Program Assistant, Summer Boarding Programs

Seasonal, Monday June 23, 2025 – Thursday August 21, 2025

Compensation: $650 Weekly

Appleby College’s Summer Boarding Programs welcome participants from around the world with diverse languages and backgrounds. Participants attend Appleby College to improve their English language skills and experience Canada. The summer boarding program is modeled after the Appleby College student experience, with a goal of providing summer participants with a snapshot of what life as an Appleby College student is like. Participants will live in boarding, attend class, participate in extra-curricular activities, and off-campus excursions.

The Evening Program Assistant, Summer Boarding Programs is responsible for the supervision, well-being, and safety of students participating in summer boarding programs after the most active part of the program day, and before nighttime procedures. Reporting to the Program Director, Summer Boarding Programs, this position will support the Summer Boarding Program’s mission to create an exceptional on-campus living experience.

This position is not an overnight role and is scheduled Monday to Thursday, with 2 Friday shifts during the time of the position's contract.

WHAT MAKES THIS JOB AWESOME
  • Actively supervise and lead participants during on-campus activities and scheduled leisure time.
  • Establish good communication with boarding participants by being visible, approachable, and available to answer questions, advise participants on personal and academic matters, mediate disputes, maintain community standards, and deal with issues as they arise.
  • Facilitate and participate in meaningful recreation programming during evening activity periods.
  • Support with set-up and tear down of all events and activities.
  • Collaborate with all Boarding Staff, Program Director, Summer Boarding, and the Assistant Director, Ancillary Boarding Programs to establish open lines of communication and a positive culture in the residence.
  • Participate in daily check-ins with the Program Director, Summer Boarding prior to the start of shift.
  • Take part in supervising an off-campus excursion to Square One Mall.
  • Follow all summer program policies and procedures including Appleby’s Mutual Respect policy.
  • Capture photos and videos of participants when members of the Communication Team are unavailable.
YOU WILL BE A GREAT FIT IF YOU:
  • Are enrolled in post-secondary education.
  • Have previous work experience in boarding, recreation, or camps is an asset.
  • Can communicate in a second or multiple languages is an asset.
  • Are versatile and dynamic in running group activities.
  • Can handle emergencies calmly and effectively.
  • Are reliable, team-oriented, professional, and creative.
  • Hold a valid Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Are open to occasional overtime.
