Evaluation and Research Associate | Michael Garron Hospital, Toronto East Health Network (MGH/TEHN) Background:

In partnership Michael Garron Hospital, East Toronto Health Partners, the Ontario Health Team for East Toronto, is launching a new integrated care pathway called VENT+ designed to support individualsrecovering after an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) stay who are at a high risk of ventilation and live with multiple co-morbidities.

Position Summary:

The Evaluation and Research Associate will support the implementation, evaluation, and research components of the VENT+ post-ICU integrated care pathway. This includes coordinating day-to-day research activities, participant recruitment, data collection, engagement, ethics and data compliance, and development of evaluation outputs. Working closely with the Evaluation and Research Lead, Clinical Leads and interdisciplinary teams, this role will ensure that evaluation and research activities are carried out in accordance with study protocols, ethics guidelines, and best practices.

The Evaluation andResearch Associate is integral to generating real-time insights for continuous improvement of the pathway, while also contributing to academic knowledge and system-wide innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Research Operations and Coordination

  • Coordinate day-to-day research operations and study visits per protocol and ICH/GCP guidelines.
  • Prepare, submit, and manage Research Ethics Board (REB) applications and renewals.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance, study documentation, and consent procedures.
  • Identify and report protocol deviations or adverse events as required.

Data Collection & Participant Management

  • Recruit, screen, and obtain informed consent from research participants.
  • Manage qualitative and quantitative data collection (e.g., interviews, surveys, EMR extraction).
  • Maintain project databases and ensure high standards of data integrity and privacy.
  • Support data cleaning, validation, and simpleanalysis in collaboration with internal MGH data teams to prepare data for research and evaluation use

Knowledge Generation and Reporting

  • Support literature reviews and contribute to manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentations.
  • Assistwith reporting to funders and partners

Program Evaluation & Quality Improvement

  • Support real-time program evaluation for rapid-cycle improvement
  • Assist with development and tracking of performance indicators
  • Coordinate knowledge mobilization efforts (e.g., documenting and communicating lessons learned)
  • Collaborate with project, clinical, and evaluation teams to translate data into actionable insights.

Patient and Caregiver Engagement

  • Engage patients, caregivers, and clinical teams to support co-design and research participation
  • Support implementation of caregiver and stakeholder feedback loops
  • Help coordinate patient advisory input and integrate insights into ongoing evaluation and improvement

Education

  • Required: Undergraduate degree in a health or science-related field.
  • Preferred: Graduate degree in health services research, epidemiology, public health or a related discipline.
  • Asset: Certification as a Clinical Research Professional (e.g., SoCRA or ACRP).

Experience & Skills

  • Research and Evaluation: Minimum 2 – 3 years of experience in applied research, evaluation, or healthcare quality improvement.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of research ethics, regulatory frameworks, and clinical research guidelines (ICH/GCP). Completed trainings such as Privacy for Researchers, CITI Program Good Clinical Practice and Health Canada Division 5 Training, TCPS2 Core and European Network of Research Ethics Committees (EUREC) are considered assets.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with data collection, management, and analysis tools (e.g., REDCap, SPSS, R, Excel, Covidence, NVIVO); familiarity with EMRs and administrative health data.
  • Communication and Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Proven ability to work in interdisciplinary teams and manage relationships with diverse partners.
