Leading paving company serving Vancouver and the Sea to Sky Corridor (Squamish – Whistler), is seeking an Estimator in two office locations – Vancouver and Squamish BC. We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Estimator who will be responsible for estimating costs and preparing accurate bids for paving projects, as well as supporting the project management team throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will have a strong background in estimating, project costing, and an in-depth understanding of the paving industry. Salary range $85,000 – $120,000 plus vehicle. Responsibilities of Estimator
- Review and assess project plans, specifications, and blueprints to create accurate cost estimates for paving projects.
- Prepare and submit bids and proposals to clients.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and suppliers to gather pricing and project details.
- Perform on-site assessments and surveys to accurately estimate project requirements and costs.
- Collaborate with project managers and other team members to ensure estimates align with project scope and timelines.
- Stay up to date on industry trends, pricing, and material costs to ensure competitive and accurate bidding.
- Provide support during the tender process, including clarifying technical aspects of the estimate and project scope.
- Assist in tracking and managing project costs during execution.
- Visit project sites to understand conditions and develop knowledge of potential construction risk.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities of the Estimator
- Working knowledge of contract language and legal requirements of contracts.
- Excellent technical, organizational, and planning skills.
- Strong interpersonal, relationship building, communication and negotiation skills.
- A solid attention to detail and ability to be a problem solver.
- The ability to work independently or as a member of a team.
- Ability to work on large ($500+ million) project estimates, with proven time management skills.
- A strong work ethic to complete tasks in a high quality manner.
- Working knowledge of Estimating and Quantity Take-Off software.
- General knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing required.
- Ability to calculate mathematical extensions, read and understand engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, cost coding systems, etc. is essential.
- Ability to assume responsibility and to interface and communicate effectively with others, have strong interpersonal skills and be self-motivated.
- Enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives are prerequisites.
Experience/Qualifications
- Ideal candidates have 3 years of experience in estimating, preferably within the paving or construction industry.
- Strong understanding of paving techniques, materials, and equipment.
- Proficient in estimating software, MS Office, and other project management tools.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driver’s abstract.
