Position Summary:

The Sales Engineer/Estimator supports customers by providing technical knowledge and expertise. This active, front-facing role involves engaging with customers regularly to develop quotations and understand technical information. The goal is to increase sales and win business from provided quotations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide technical sales support to clients with detailed layouts and cost analysis.
  2. Review documents such as customer design specifications and requests to assess feasibility and applicability.
  3. Generate cost estimates and quotations; perform follow-up activities to secure new business.
  4. Participate in the contract review process to share learned information.
  5. Assist design engineering with schematics or drawings development.
  6. Sell and propose products, systems, and services requiring technical engineering and cost knowledge.
  7. Collaborate with customers and production engineering to tailor products or services to customer needs.
  8. Establish rapport and build relationships with customers.
  9. Demonstrate product and service advantages over competitors to potential customers.
  10. Report on market changes affecting company offerings.
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology or 8 years of machining and/or fabricating experience required in lieu of a degree
  • Minimum 6+ years of related industry experience required.
  • Previous experience as a Sales Engineer in precision machining and/or metal fabrication for industrial and defense products.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and sales proposals.
  • Ability to conduct product, customer, and market research.
  • Proven record of generating innovative and practical ideas.
  • Team player with attention to detail and innovative thinking.
  • Understanding of sales techniques.

Physical Requirements/Abilities:

Office environment with minimal lifting of thirty pounds or less. May require navigating stairs and moving through the plant for guided tours.
