Job summary

Autism Services in Canada seeks a construction estimator to support project bids by reviewing drawings, plans and specifications to determine resources and activities required. You will develop detailed estimates for materials, labour, equipment and subcontractor services, and prepare pricing proposals in line with project requirements.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, plans, specifications, scopes of work and project requirements to determine the resources and activities required for a project.
• Develop detailed estimates covering materials, labour, equipment, subcontractor services, transportation and other project-related expenses.
• Obtain and evaluate pricing from suppliers, contractors and subcontractors and incorporate appropriate quotations into project estimates.
• Prepare bids, tenders, quotations and pricing proposals in accordance with project specifications and submission requirements.
• Compare competing quotations and assess pricing, scope, exclusions, schedules and other commercial considerations when evaluating bids.
• Assist management in determining appropriate tender strategies and provide recommendations regarding subcontractors, suppliers and project pricing.
• Maintain organized records of suppliers, subcontractors, material costs, labour rates and historical project pricing for use in future estimates.
• Establish and maintain estimating worksheets, cost databases and procedures for tracking project costs and pricing information.
• Prepare project cost forecasts and periodically compare estimated costs with actual expenditures to identify significant variances.
• Assist with preparing cost reports, expenditure summaries and financial forecasts throughout the project lifecycle.
• Work with project managers, site personnel, engineers, architects, customers, contractors and subcontractors to clarify project requirements and resolve estimating-related issues.
• Review proposed changes to project scope and assess their potential impact on material, labour, equipment and overall project costs.
• Prepare revised estimates and change-order pricing when project requirements, drawings, quantities or specifications change.
• Assist in assessing the financial feasibility of proposed construction methods, material substitutions, design changes and other project adjustments.
