Description

Valard Construction LP is Canada’s premier powerline contractor, serving clients in both public & private sectors. We offer construction services in overhead and underground transmission and distribution systems, substations, fibre optics, as well as substation and transmission foundations.

The Substation Estimating Coordinator is responsible for the production and gathering of project-related information, tracking, filing, and distributing this information to all related parties. This position will be accountable for maintaining all construction information up-to-date, consistent, and organized in an orderly fashion for all others in the project team. This role will involve working closely with estimating manager, estimators, and the procurement team to support estimating of project costs, bid evaluation, and support the planning and execution of estimating operations.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Bid preparation:

· Assist in the preparation of project bids, including estimating quantities, scope, and timelines.

· Collaborate with estimators to gather necessary data and ensure accurate cost projections.

· Coordinate bid outreach, including subcontractor engagement

. Proofread and assemble final proposals forms for submissions to owners.

Documentation & Reporting:

· Maintain clear, organized records of project -related documents, estimates, bid submissions, and project documentation.

· Provide regular reports on bid status to stakeholders.

· Ensure all bid-related files are stored and easily accessible

Vendor Coordination:

· Work with procurement teams to source and evaluate suppliers, materials, and equipment.

· Maintain and update vendor logs to compile historical pricing and contact lists.

· Distribute Request for proposals to sub-contractors and vendors

Administrative Support:

· Participate in site visits, as necessary, to gather data for cost estimation and ensure understanding of site conditions.

· Identify potential risks related to cost, schedule, and scope and propose mitigation strategies.

· Provide general assistance such as scheduling meetings and managing correspondence as required.



Requirements

Knowledge & Skills:

    • 1-5 years of experience in construction cost estimation.
    • A degree in Construction Management, Electerical Engineering or a related field is highly preferred.
    • Proven ability to manage multiple projects/activities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
    • Must have project scheduling and document control experience.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
    • Experience with the following software: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project, etc.), BlueBeam, MS Copilot
    • Document control programs (SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.)
    • Familiarity with construction estimating software (InEight previously Hard Dollar).
    • Understanding of electrical engineering drawings and project specifications.
    • Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and processes specific to substations and energy storage systems.
    • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with project teams, vendors, and clients.
