Clark Builders is hiring a motivated and detail-oriented Estimating Intern to join our team in Edmonton. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the construction estimating process, working alongside experienced professionals in the industry. The intern will assist with project cost estimating, quantity takeoffs, budgeting, and proposal preparation. This will be a 4-month work term starting May 2025.

Reporting to: Estimating Manager

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Assist in preparing detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead.
2. Review project plans, drawings, and specifications to understand scope and requirements.
3. Support the gathering of quotes from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure accurate pricing.
4. Assist in preparing bid proposals and comparing project costs for different bidding scenarios.
5. Help maintain accurate records of estimates and related documentation.
6. Participate in site visits to evaluate project conditions and gather necessary data for estimating purposes.
7. Collaborate with project managers, engineers/designers, and other team members to ensure all aspects of the estimate are accurate and comprehensive.
8. Use estimating software and tools to develop quantity takeoffs, estimates, and budgets.
9. Contribute to the development of cost databases and templates for future estimating purposes.
10. Assist with any other tasks and duties as required by the estimating team.

Qualifications:

1. Currently enrolled in a diploma or degree program in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a construction-related field.
2. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
3. Basic understanding of construction processes and project lifecycle.
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
5. Familiarity with construction estimating and/or takeoff software is a plus.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
7. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
8. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
9. A willingness to learn and gain practical experience in construction estimating.
