About the workplace

As an ESG Analyst with Vancity Investment Management (VCIM), you will be part of the only asset management firm in Canada focused solely on Socially Responsible Investing with a fossil-fuel free mandate.

You will contribute to VCIM's effectiveness by providing ESG analytical advice and expertise to portfolio managers and investment committees, and participate in the firm’s social and environmental engagement activities to promote sustainable impact in our communities.

This is a permanent, full-time role with hybrid working arrangements, primarily from the Vancity head office and your Lower Mainland home office. You may be required to work in-office at least once a week. You will report to the ESG Lead.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Conduct ESG research and analysis of potential investments to support the investment process.
  • Provide timely advice to Portfolio Managers and Investment Committees, and identify new opportunities for portfolio construction.
  • Prepare briefing materials on ESG issues to inform the Investment Committee and support shareholder engagement.
  • Create and deliver presentations to support sales and marketing initiatives.
  • Support shareholder engagement strategies and thematic work.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in a related discipline.
  • 3-5 years of ESG analysis and/or corporate sustainability experience.
  • Strong writing, research, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to simplify complex documents for broad audiences.
  • Ability to assess material relevance for different audiences.
  • Willingness to travel within Canada several times a year.
  • Excellent facilitation, presentation, and public speaking skills, comfortable speaking to groups of 10-200.
  • Deep understanding of ESG factors, their impact on risk and performance, and ESG risk management.
  • Solid business acumen within the Socially Responsible Investment industry.

Preferred additional qualifications:

  • CFA designation or progress towards CFA.
  • Experience developing shareholder engagement strategies.
  • Experience with ESG research software and databases.

  • Strong communicator with interpersonal skills and the ability to provide expert advice.
  • Problem solver with decision-making skills and innovative thinking.
  • Analytical mindset capable of handling complex topics with attention to detail and strategic thinking.

The base salary is $95,000 plus incentive pay annually.
