Job Purpose
As an Equity Diversity Inclusion and Accessibility (EDIA) Policy Specialist at Coast Capital, you will develop policies and build practices to ensure our work follows current rules for representation, accessibility, and accommodation across the candidate and employee experience, as set by federal and provincial laws. This role is for someone who thrives on the assignment of developing strategy and implementing plans that meet compliance requirements, ensuring an inclusive and equitable environment for all, both employees and members/clients. Your expertise will directly contribute to fostering a workplace where diversity is not just welcomed but fully integrated into the fabric of our company culture.
Accountabilities
- Draft and examine policy documents to successfully meet EDIA objectives, ensuring they align with the latest legal and regulatory standards. Lead collaboration with stakeholders to recommend inclusive policies and coordinate with HR and management to achieve organizational goals. Provide clear guidance and interpretation of these policies to employees.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments to guarantee company policies adhere to EDIA-related laws. Generate compliance reports and advise on system improvements essential for maintaining an inclusive and equitable work environment.
- Execute the strategic plan for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility (EDIA) within the company’s framework and lead initiatives to integrate EDIA principles into daily business operations. Facilitate staff training on EDIA policies and liaise with department heads to ensure policy adoption and drive behavioral change.
- Track the progress of strategy goals, adjusting tactics as needed, and support communication strategies that raise EDIA awareness.
- Develop and implement companywide accessibility standards to ensure employment practices, communications, and digital and physical infrastructures are compliant with federal and provincial Acts. Lead collaboration with IT, Facilities Management, Business Lines and others as required to enhance accessibility features.
- Create and distribute educational materials on accessibility standards to staff.
- Regularly review and update policies to stay current with legislative changes and technological advancements.
- Oversee the Accessibility Feedback Process, receiving and actioning member related accessibility feedback as prescribed by the Accessible Canada Act.
- Support the submission of accurate and timely Employment Equity reporting by analyzing employment data to identify trends and areas for improvement, developing and implementing action plans, and collaborating with departments to align action plans with business strategies.
- Review employment systems for compliance with Employment Equity legislation, by identifying and addressing systemic barriers in policies and practices related to recruitment, retention, and promotion.
Skills & Qualifications
- 7+ years experience in policy development and analysis.
- 2+ years experience in legislative and regulatory compliance.
- 3+ years experience supporting EDIA regulatory requirements.
- Expertise in policy document drafting and analysis.
- Proficient in interpreting legislative and regulatory standards for EDIA.
- Ability to generate and evaluate compliance reports.
- Skills in strategic planning for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility.
- Experience in integrating EDIA principles into business operations.
- Proficiency in creating accessible digital and physical infrastructure.
- Experience with policy communication strategies and educational materials creation.
- Skills in monitoring and updating policies aligned with technological advancements.
- Established track record of successful policy implementation.
- Proven experience in advising on and enacting organizational change.
- History of effective collaboration with HR and key stakeholders to achieve goals.
- Evidence of improved company compliance with EDIA-related laws.
- Accomplishments in enhancing workplace diversity and inclusion.
