Job Description:

The Ottawa Catholic School Board seeks a dynamic, strategic and collaborative leader to serve as its Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisor. The Advisor will provide system-wide leadership to cultivate and champion a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture throughout the School Board. The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisor will strengthen equity, diversity and inclusion across all levels of our system while upholding the distinctive nature of Catholic education and adherence to the Roman Catholic traditions.

The Ottawa Catholic School Board is deeply committed to the dignity and equality of all persons. Reporting to the Principal of Leadership and Parent Engagement and the Superintendent of Leadership and Parent Engagement, the Advisor will provide strategic leadership in implementing the Board’s Equity Plan. The Advisor will work with education stakeholders at both the system and school level to assist in developing strong partnerships in the areas of equity, diversity and inclusion. The position requires a dynamic individual who has an understanding of the complexity and multiple dimensions of implementing industry best practices, equal opportunity and equity within the educational system.

  • Work collaboratively with the executive leadership team of the Ottawa Catholic School Board to implement the Board's Strategic Commitments as they relate to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

  • Work collaboratively with the Principal of Leadership and Parent Engagement.

  • Responsible for supporting the development and delivery for both staff and students training programs and initiatives to promote Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

  • Responsible for co-leading the Board’s Equity and Inclusive Education committee.

  • Work collaboratively with department staff, Human Resources staff and the Interdepartmental Leadership Teams to increase competencies related to equity and diversity.

  • Assist with the development, review and implementation of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion-related procedures and policies.

  • Incorporate the OCSB Indigenous Action Plan and the OCSB Mental Health and Well-Being Strategy as integral components of the Board Equity Plan.

  • Establish and develop community partnerships and networks that promote equity and diversity.

  • Work with Human Resources staff to promote diversity in staff recruitment and retention, and leadership development programs.

  • Assist staff in providing pastoral care approaches that promote the dignity of all.

  • Implement system-wide training to develop a culturally proficient workforce.

  • Support the delivery of individual and organizational needs assessments, including consideration of climate surveys, metrics and analytics in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion.

  • Provide coaching and support to school and system leaders.

  • Support schools to have safe, inclusive learning environments that value and honour diversity.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • A university degree or an equivalent professional designation in a relevant field.

  • A minimum of 5–7 years of progressive experience in equity, diversity, and inclusion work, preferably within an educational context.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences effectively.

  • Proven ability to design and deliver impactful presentations, workshops, and professional learning sessions for staff and stakeholders.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus and trust through conflict resolution and relationship-building processes.

  • A passion for supporting employee growth and development.

  • Lived experience—personal and/or professional—in navigating systemic barriers, marginalization, or identity-based discrimination.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation and frameworks, including the Ontario Human Rights Code, Anti-Racism Act, Education Act, and the Ontario Education Equity Action Plan.

In addition, the following will be considered an asset:

  • Demonstrated understanding of Catholic Social Teaching, particularly its focus on human dignity, solidarity, and care for the marginalized, as a foundation for equity and inclusion work in a Catholic school setting.

  • Knowledge of the Ontario K–12 education system, with an understanding of the unique context of Catholic education.

  • Experience conducting equity audits, administering climate surveys, and using data to assess the impact of equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives.

  • Familiarity with equitable hiring practices, onboarding, staff retention strategies, and leadership development with an EDI lens.

  • Postgraduate education or certification in equity, diversity and inclusion, human rights, or a related discipline.

Annual (or Hourly) Salary:This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) permanent position with an annual salary range of $94,929 - $120,948.
